The Opportunity
Join McElhanney for an internship in Edmonton starting from May 2027, where you’ll discover the direction, you want to take your career by gaining hands-on experience in the field. We connect you with industry-leading mentors and a cohort of top-tier students across Canada. You’ll support field roles across construction geomatics, regulatory, and facilities projects with our Edmonton Geomatics branch. Our interns work with multidisciplinary teams to apply what they’ve learned in school and assist with project delivery in Surveying and Geomatics.

What You’ll Do
- Learn about and assist in the use of GNSS receivers for RTK, RTN and static measurements as well as total stations, and levels.
- Maintain, clean, monitor, and report on the condition of equipment and vehicles.
- Work in both field environments across Edmonton and surrounding project sites, gaining exposure to construction, geomatics, regulatory, and facilities projects.
- Be exposed to emerging technologies, including drones, 3D laser scanning, reality capture tools, and other advanced geomatics equipment.
- Participate in McElhanney’s industry-leading safety practices to meet and exceed client needs, ensuring that our teams "Think Safe, Work Safe, and Get Home Safe”.
Practice Area's You'll Focus On
As part of your internship, you’ll gain exposure to a range of geomatics practice areas while building practical field and technical skills. Your experience may vary depending on project needs, branch requirements, and your interests.
- Geomatics & Geospatial: Gain exposure to surveying and geospatial work across multiple market sectors, supporting field and office activities for infrastructure, development, and Energy & Resources related projects.
- Geomatics Technology & Reality Capture: Be introduced to advanced technologies such as drones, 3D laser scanning, reality capture tools, and other modern survey equipment.
What You’ll Bring

Enrolled in a Diploma or Degree program in Geomatics Engineering, Geomatics Technology, Surveying, GIS, Geospatial, Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.

Ability to work in a variety of outdoor settings including wilderness/backcountry environments for extended periods with varied hours.

A willingness and ability to travel and work out of town.

Able to work on busy sites with varied terrain and ability to lift heavy equipment.

Previous work experience working in outdoors environments is an asset.

Excellent attention to detail, good judgement, and clear communication skills.

Modern technical aptitude and an interest in advanced reality capture, GIS, geospatial, or survey technologies is an asset.

Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
What Can We Offer You?
The wage range for this position is $22 - $28 per hour. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
