About the role This is a rare opportunity to join New Zealand’s largest malignant haematology and stem cell transplant service, recognised nationally for excellence in patient care, research, and education. Based at Auckland City Hospital, Te Pūriri o Te Ora Regional Cancer and Blood Service cares for a diverse population of 1.7 million people across the Auckland region. As part of our malignant haematology and transplant team, you’ll use your expertise in clinical haematology with a focus on transplant and cellular therapy, while also contributing across the full spectrum of haematological cancer care. Experience in plasma cell disorders, leukaemia, and stem cell transplantation will be highly regarded, though we are also open to candidates with interests in other subspecialties. You will work within a highly collaborative multidisciplinary service that provides secondary haematology care to central Auckland and tertiary care to the greater region (population >1.5 million). Our service also treats acute leukaemia, high-grade lymphoma, and performs both autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants. We have close links with a thrombosis unit, bleeding disorder programme (including dedicated haemophilia care), and LabPlus, which delivers integrated laboratory support. With an extensive portfolio of clinical trials and strong partnerships with regional oncology programmes, this role also offers opportunities in research, teaching, and quality improvement – supporting our commitment to excellence and continued FACT accreditation. Te Pūriri o Te Ora is the name that has been gifted to our northern regional cancer and blood services by Kahurangi Rangimārie Naida Glavish of Ngāti Whātua, Chief Advisor Tikanga for Te Toka Tumai Auckland. Te Pūriri o Te Ora means "the Pūriri tree of wellbeing" and speaks to the many qualities and gifts of the Pūriri tree and our aspiration to provide a place of healing and wellbeing for our communities. Te Pūriri o Te Ora is the biggest cancer and blood service within Aotearoa, providing care to approximately 40% of the country. We provide a wide range of services including Medical and Radiation Oncology, Haematology, Āwhinatia Te Tangata (specialist Māori Health team), Cancer Support Team (specialist psychological and social support), Research, Genetics Services, and the NZ Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Service.
