Mission TAR’s mission is to power intelligence for the world. We are building the world’s first off-grid power plant for data centers powered by renewable technologies. We firmly believe AI should be built in the US for the benefit of all people. For that, power must be fast, clean and scalable. We are singularly focused on delivering GW-scale power faster than anyone has ever done, by rethinking every layer of the stack. We vertically integrate to solve every bottleneck, from racking systems to power electronics to dispatch algorithms to on-site construction. Leave your mark on the future of civilization-scale energy infrastructure. Company TAR is both a hardware and software company, we are building out massive, critical, physical infrastructure. (TAR is working directly with one of the largest compute providers to scale and deploy 5GWs by 2028) We operate on… High ownership. High Agency. Own project end-to-end. Great people don’t need to be managed. Speed. We achieve great things on incredible timelines. We push ourselves to go faster. First principles. No ego. No hierarchy. Challenge every assumption. Passion. Solving the energy problem is one of the largest challenges that faces the world now and in the future. About the role TAR builds fully islanded, off-grid solar and storage campuses that deliver hundreds of megawatts of clean, firm power to AI data centers: no gas, our load never waits in an interconnection queue, and we are on a path to 5 GW deployed by 2028. Islanding is our speed advantage, but when generation exceeds data center load, surplus solar is curtailed; across a GW-scale fleet, that stranded energy is a material revenue stream. As Head of Interconnection & Transmission, you own turning it into revenue: grid interconnection, transmission, market participation, and monetization for our flagship West Texas campus and every campus after it. One hard constraint: the island always works, and export can never become a dependency. This is a senior player-coach seat reporting to the co-founders, based in Austin with regular travel to our West Texas site, ERCOT, and the PUCT. Responsibilities Run ERCOT generation interconnection end to end, from queue entry and the Full Interconnection Study through interconnection agreement and commissioning approvals to commercial operations. Lead POI selection and gen-tie development, including routing, easements, land and permitting, engineering coordination, and TSP negotiations on scope, cost, and schedule. Define the export architecture with our power systems team, covering Private Use Network (PUN) topology, metering and settlement design, and protection and controls at the POI, engineered so islanded operations never depend on the grid tie. Drive ERCOT market entry, including Resource Entity registration, QSE selection and management, ESR registration for storage, settlement, and credit. Build the monetization strategy across export scheduling, BESS arbitrage on surplus solar, ancillary services (Reg, RRS, ECRS, Non-Spin) from storage headroom, REC sales, and congestion and basis risk management in West Texas. Own the economics of curtailment, weighing grid export against incremental storage and flexible offtake, and make the call per site with a model you build. Engage PUCT and ERCOT stakeholder processes to track and shape rulemakings on co-located generation and large loads (SB 6 implementation and successors), protecting our islanded, behind-the-meter model while opening the export path. Turn our flagship campus into a repeatable interconnection playbook, from POI screening criteria to templated market onboarding, so every future campus ships with export built in. Qualifications 10+ years of experience in ERCOT interconnection, transmission development, or wholesale market operations, including at least one generation project taken personally from queue entry through commercial operations. Deep ERCOT fluency: nodal market design, Planning Guide and Protocols, Private Use Networks, resource registration, and TSP processes. Working relationships across ERCOT staff, TSPs, QSEs, and the PUCT. Commercial instinct: you can build the revenue model, not just run the study process. Storage market participation experience, including ESR registration and ancillary services strategy (strongly preferred). Fast and lean operator, comfortable being the entire function on day one and building the team as the fleet scales. Nice to have Experience with co-located load and generation structures or large-load interconnection policy. Multi-ISO exposure (WECC, SPP, MISO) for future expansion. Power systems engineering background (a PE license is a plus). Salary and Benefits Up to $15K relocation bonus Unlimited PTO Health, Dental, Vision insurance $1K monthly stipend for meals
