Summary

The Health and Human Physiological Sciences (HHPS) Department invites applications for a full-time open-rank tenure-track faculty position in HHPS to begin in the fall of 2027. The HHPS Department is located in the recently opened Billie Tisch Center for Integrated Sciences, a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility that fosters unique interdisciplinary connections across the sciences. The HHPS Department has a suite of laboratories for conducting sophisticated, in-depth research from the molecular/cellular level to applied physiology in animal and human models. Our suite of laboratories allows for research interests across a breadth of areas including environmental/occupational physiology, cardiovascular physiology, endocrinology, and metabolism. Responsibilities include undergraduate teaching within the department and as part of the College’s first-year experience program; developing and implementing a research program that involves undergraduates and competes for national grants (e.g., NIH-AIREA); advising/mentoring students; and serving the department, the college, and broader profession.

Applicants should embrace the teacher-scholar model and demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentoring within a liberal arts environment. Candidates should have expertise in exercise physiology or a closely related area of human physiology and health, with the potential to contribute to courses across the HHPS curriculum. Areas of scholarly interest may include, but are not limited to, exercise physiology, integrative physiology, physical activity and health, nutrition, or other biomedical and health-related fields.

Candidates should demonstrate the potential to develop an active and sustainable research program that meaningfully engages undergraduate students in the research process. We particularly value candidates who view teaching and scholarship as complementary activities and who are enthusiastic about mentoring students as developing scientists and health professionals. Experience in teaching, postdoctoral research, and pursuit of extramural funding are highly desirable.

We are seeking an energetic teacher/scholar who embraces interdisciplinary work in a creative and supportive environment. We are expressly interested in faculty with expertise in exercise physiology, broadly, and/or areas complementary to existing faculty expertise in the department.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 18 contact hours per academic year (~5 classes) including: Introduction to Exercise Physiology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Research Techniques in Human Physiology/Exercise Testing and Prescription, Human Nutrition, Advanced Exercise Physiology, Research Design, and special topics upper-level courses. Responsibilities will also include occasionally teaching a first-year seminar course in the College’s first-year experience seminar course.
  • Conduct and disseminate research with HHPS students. Pursue funding through governmental, professional organizations, and/or industry partners. Dissemination of research through presentations at scientific conferences and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Act in service to the department, college, and broader professional community.
  • This is a 9-month per academic year position with benefits eligibility and salary paid over 12-months per year.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. or similar degree in the area of exercise/applied physiology/kinesiology or a related field (ABD considered).
  • Preference will be given to candidates with undergraduate teaching experience, postdoctoral fellowship experience, active research agendas, and those with experience in pursuing extramural research funding.

Salary: $80,000 - $120,000 depending on rank.
