Achieve Something Great

This is an exciting opportunity to join Youth Health Service, working alongside a multidisciplinary team to improve the health and wellbeing of young people aged 12–24 years across South Western Sydney. As a Health Education Officer, you will work directly with young people, particularly those who experience disadvantage, marginalisation or barriers to accessing health care. You will develop and deliver engaging health promotion and education initiatives, facilitate groups, provide individual support and case management, and connect young people with the services and supports they need. The role combines health promotion, youth engagement, community development and advocacy, providing an opportunity to turn ideas into practical initiatives that respond to the needs of young people. You will work with young people and community partners to develop resources, campaigns, education activities and projects that build health knowledge, confidence and access to care. Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people—helping them navigate health services, build their health and wellbeing, and have their voices and needs recognised in the design and delivery of services.

Are You the Right Fit?

About

We are looking for someone who is passionate about young people, health equity and making a difference in the community. You will be a great fit for this role if you:

  • Have qualifications in health promotion, public health, health education, social science or a related field.
  • Have an understanding of evidence-based health promotion, including identifying needs, planning, delivering and evaluating initiatives.
  • Enjoy working directly with young people and have experience engaging with diverse, vulnerable or marginalised communities.
  • Are confident developing and delivering creative health education, group work and community-based activities.
  • Can build genuine partnerships with young people, community organisations and other services and bring people together to achieve shared outcomes.
  • Are a strong communicator who can adapt your approach to different audiences and produce clear, high-quality written work and resources.
  • Are creative, curious, adaptable and solutions-focused, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
  • Can work confidently both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Are organised, self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Bring a genuine commitment to advocacy, social justice, harm minimisation and improving access to health care for young people.

Selection Criteria

To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.

  • Tertiary qualifications in health promotion, public health, social science (with a health promotion major), health education or related field.
  • Tell us about a health promotion or health education initiative you have been involved in. How did you identify the needs of the target group, plan and deliver the initiative, and evaluate its impact?
  • Describe your experience working with young people, particularly those who may be vulnerable, marginalised or experiencing barriers to accessing health care. How did you build trust, engage them and advocate for their needs?
  • Give an example of how you have developed a partnership with another organisation, service or community group to achieve a shared outcome. What was your contribution and what was the result?
  • Describe a situation where you have had to manage competing priorities while working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary or collaborative team. How did you communicate, organise your work and ensure a quality outcome?
  • Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
