Responsive recruiter Benefits: Free uniforms Opportunity for advancement Relocation bonus Signing bonus Training & development Wellness resources Bonus based on performance Company car Competitive salary Flexible schedule Full-Time | Field-Based | Salary + Performance Commission Position Summary One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning is seeking an experienced HVAC Field Training & Technical Supervisor to develop apprentices and strengthen the technical capabilities of our existing service technicians. This is a hands-on field position — not a work-from-home or office-based training role. The Technical Supervisor will spend the majority of the workweek in the field conducting ride-alongs, coaching apprentices on live service calls, providing technical support to technicians, performing truck and inventory inspections, and ensuring technicians follow proper diagnostic and service procedures. The primary objective of this position is simple: Develop apprentices into technically competent, independent HVAC service technicians while continuously improving the technical performance of the existing service team. This position is focused on technical excellence — not sales management. Primary Responsibilities Field Training & Ride-Alongs Conduct regular ride-alongs with apprentices and technicians throughout the week. Provide hands-on instruction during actual residential HVAC service calls and teach technicians how to systematically diagnose equipment rather than simply replace parts. Identify individual technical weaknesses and create focused coaching to close those gaps. Rotate between apprentices so each technician receives consistent field development and evaluation. Technical Support & Escalation Serve as the primary technical escalation resource for apprentices and service technicians. When another technician encounters a difficult diagnosis while the supervisor is riding with someone else, provide immediate technical assistance by phone or video. When an issue cannot reasonably be resolved remotely, provide on-site field support when necessary . The expectation is that this position actively helps technicians reach the correct diagnosis and complete service calls properly while teaching them why the diagnosis is correct. Technical Training Areas The supervisor should be capable of training technicians in: Preventive maintenance and HVAC tune-ups No-cool and no-heat diagnostics Electrical troubleshooting Capacitors, contactors, motors, relays and control circuits Compressor diagnostics Refrigerant diagnostics Superheat and subcooling Proper refrigerant charging Leak detection Airflow diagnostics Static pressure Blower performance Duct and airflow-related problems Furnace diagnostics Heat pump diagnostics Thermostats and low-voltage controls Drainage and condensate issues Indoor air quality equipment Systematic troubleshooting and root-cause diagnosis Proper use of meters, gauges and diagnostic instruments Safe and professional residential HVAC service practices Equipment installation management is not part of this position. Classroom Training Conduct structured technical training twice per week — Monday and Thursday . Training should combine classroom instruction, equipment demonstrations, troubleshooting exercises, field examples, and hands-on practice. The supervisor will help technicians progress through a defined development path: Level 1 – Maintenance Technician ↓ Level 2 – Basic Diagnostic Technician ↓ Level 3 – Advanced Diagnostic Technician ↓ Level 4 – Independent Service Technician Advancement should be based on demonstrated competency rather than simply time employed. Technician Evaluation & Accountability Evaluate apprentices regularly and determine whether they have demonstrated the technical competency required to advance to the next level. Document recurring technical deficiencies and provide corrective coaching. Hold apprentices accountable for following established diagnostic procedures, safety requirements, company processes, and technical standards. Provide management with clear feedback regarding technician progress, strengths, weaknesses and readiness for independent field work. Truck & Inventory Accountability Conduct routine technician truck inspections. Verify that required service materials and commonly used parts are properly stocked. Monitor inventory usage and help ensure company materials are being used appropriately and accounted for. Identify unnecessary material consumption, missing inventory, poor truck organization, or repeated inventory discrepancies. Ensure technicians maintain clean, organized and professionally operated service vehicles. Sales Responsibilities This is not a sales-management position . The Technical Supervisor's responsibility is to ensure technicians: Diagnose systems correctly Understand the technical problem Recommend technically appropriate solutions Perform high-quality work Develop into competent HVAC professionals Sales strategy, pricing, sales coaching and overall revenue management remain under company leadership. Schedule Full-time, five days per week. The normal workweek will consist primarily of field training, ride-alongs, technical troubleshooting, technician evaluation and truck/inventory inspections. Monday and Thursday will include scheduled technical training sessions. Weekend responsibility will generally consist of on-call technical support by phone for technicians who encounter difficult service situations. Compensation Weekly Salary + Performance Commission In addition to the weekly salary, the Technical Supervisor will have an opportunity to earn performance-based commission tied directly to the success of the apprentices he trains. Commission: 5% of qualifying revenue generated by assigned apprentices , subject to the company's commission plan and eligibility rules. This compensation structure is designed to reward the supervisor for successfully developing apprentices into productive, technically capable service technicians. Company-Provided Company vehicle Company gas card Company tablet Training resources and access to company systems The employee is responsible for maintaining the professional HVAC tools and diagnostic equipment necessary to perform the position. Qualifications Required: 7–10+ years of residential HVAC field experience Extensive residential service and diagnostic experience Strong electrical and refrigeration troubleshooting skills EPA Universal Certification Current applicable TDLR registration/license Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Ability to diagnose complex HVAC problems independently Ability to teach technical concepts clearly to technicians with different experience levels Strong leadership and accountability skills Comfortable providing hands-on field instruction Ability to communicate technical troubleshooting remotely by phone/video when necessary Preferred: NATE certification Previous Lead Technician, Field Supervisor or HVAC Trainer experience Experience developing apprentices or junior technicians Texas HVAC Contractor License What Success Looks Like Success in this position will be measured primarily by technician development and technical quality , including: Apprentices progressing from maintenance to independent service capability Improvement in technicians' diagnostic accuracy Reduction in unnecessary callbacks and repeat technical issues Improved first-time problem resolution Consistent attendance and effectiveness of Monday/Thursday technical training Technician compliance with technical and safety procedures Proper truck organization and inventory accountability Responsiveness when technicians require technical assistance Demonstrated improvement in the apprentices assigned to the supervisor Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is the type of senior HVAC professional that younger technicians naturally call when they are stuck. He or she doesn't simply tell a technician what part to replace . They can explain why the system is failing, how to prove the diagnosis, what readings should be taken, and how to prevent the same diagnostic mistake in the future. We are looking for someone who enjoys being in the field, enjoys developing technicians, takes pride in technical excellence, and wants to build the next generation of HVAC service professionals.
