Show job description

We are seeking an Industrial Designer at Cobot. In this role, you will work closely with the cross functional teams to develop and refine innovative concepts for our robotics systems. This position offers the opportunity to impact from product vision, definition, architecture, CMF to DFM. Iterating rapidly from initial sketches to 3D models, while ensuring alignment with manufacturing and engineering requirements.

Join us to reimagine the future of human-robot interaction.

Collaborative Robotics is a team of innovators and builders redefining the future of human-robot interaction. We are working to realize a world where robots are a trusted extension of your surroundings. They work, adapt, and react around you. Not the other way around.

This role is located onsite at our Santa Clara, CA headquarters.

Cobot will offer a relocation stipend if you are relocating to join our Santa Clara office and currently live more than 50 miles outside of the office location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Translate user needs, design insights, and technical requirements into elegant, intuitive industrial design solutions.

  • Drive the industrial design process from early concept exploration through detailed design, prototyping, and manufacturing.

  • Develop and refine compelling design concepts through sketching, 3D modeling, visualization, and physical prototyping, including in ambiguous or evolving problem spaces.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and manufacturing teams to navigate technical constraints, resolve design trade-offs, and bring products to life.

  • Independently manage design workstreams, balance competing priorities, and communicate design decisions effectively across teams.

  • Contribute to adjacent creative and design initiatives to support a cohesive product experience and visual identity.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or a related field.

  • 5+ years of professional industrial design experience, with a strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality design work on realized physical products.

  • Refined visual sensibility, strong design fundamentals, and the ability to translate complex problems into simple, thoughtful solutions.

  • Hands-on experience with design for manufacturing (DFM), with a strong understanding of and curiosity about how products are engineered, built, and assembled.

  • Experience with rapid prototyping across a variety of materials, methods, and tools.

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Rhino, Alias, CATIA, or equivalent.

  • Proficiency in 3D visualization and rendering tools such as KeyShot, Cinema 4D, or equivalent.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate design decisions and collaborate with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

  • Enjoy working in a fast paced, collaborative and dynamic start-up environment.

  • Willing to travel.

  • Must have and maintain US work authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience incorporating physical-product user experience (UX) considerations into industrial design for complex hardware systems.

  • Experience designing products that integrate mechanical, electrical, and other engineering constraints, particularly in robotics or related industries.

The base salary range for this position is $190,000 - $210,000 plus equity and comprehensive benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and experience level.
