An established Michigan litigation firm focused on insurance defense is seeking an Insurance Defense Associate Attorney to join its team in Farmington Hills, MI. You’ll manage your own caseload of no-fault and insurance defense matters from start to finish. Base salary is $140,000-$170,000, and quarterly production bonuses put total compensation around $200,000 for strong performers.

This is a lifestyle firm that expects great work and respects your time outside of it. After an initial in-office period, you’ll set your own hybrid schedule. Time off is flexible, and attorneys who build their own adjuster relationships have a real path to partnership.

What You’ll Do as the Insurance Defense Associate Attorney:

  • Manage your own caseload of insurance defense matters from intake through resolution, building to roughly 50-60 files once you’re up to speed
  • Defend Michigan no-fault claims and other insurance defense matters, including a growing volume of SIU (Special Investigations Unit) cases
  • Take and defend depositions and manage written discovery
  • Draft and argue motions, including dispositive motions
  • Evaluate cases and report strategy, exposure, and recommendations to insurance carrier clients and adjusters
  • Negotiate settlements and represent clients in case evaluation, facilitation, and mediation
  • Prepare cases for trial and try cases when needed
  • Build relationships with adjusters and carrier clients that grow your own referral base
  • Collaborate closely with the firm’s partners and attorneys

Must-Haves as the Insurance Defense Associate Attorney:

  • Active Michigan bar license in good standing
  • About 3-7 years of litigation experience
  • Michigan no-fault experience, from either the defense or plaintiff side
  • Proven ability to independently manage your own caseload from start to finish
  • Strong deposition, discovery, and motion practice skills
  • Courtroom readiness and the confidence to try a case when needed
  • A genuine enjoyment of litigation
  • Ability to meet a 1,850-hour annual billable requirement
  • Ability to work from the Farmington Hills office for an initial period before moving to a hybrid schedule

Nice-to-Haves as the Insurance Defense Associate Attorney:

  • SIU or insurance fraud defense experience
  • Insurance defense experience at a private law firm
  • Trial experience
  • Existing relationships with insurance adjusters or carrier clients
  • Experience across Michigan circuit and district courts

This Role Offers:

  • Base salary of $140,000-$170,000, depending on experience
  • Quarterly bonuses paid for every billable hour above 1,850, with significant earning upside for high performers
  • Health insurance premiums 100% paid by the firm, plus an HSA
  • 401(k) with a 3% company match after one year
  • Flexible time off, typically about four weeks, with real flexibility when your caseload is handled
  • Hybrid flexibility after an initial in-office onboarding period
  • A real path to partnership for attorneys who build their own relationships and referrals
  • Relocation assistance available to negotiate for candidates elsewhere in Michigan
  • A growing 14-attorney firm that values life outside of work
