Job Summary

We are looking for a motivated graduate to join our global HPC team. This is an entry-level opportunity to build practical experience across Linux, high-performance computing, cloud technologies, automation and modern IT operations while working alongside experienced specialists.

Reporting to the HPC Services TL, you will contribute to the reliable operation and continuous improvement of our HPC and cloud environment. You will receive structured support, coaching and exposure to a broad technology stack, helping you develop from strong academic foundations into an effective IT professional.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the day-to-day operation, monitoring and maintenance of HPC, cloud and associated IT platforms.
• Assist with diagnosing and resolving technical issues, escalating complex incidents appropriately and keeping stakeholders updated.
• Contribute to system improvements, automation and the development of efficient operational tools and processes.
• Help maintain the stability, availability, security and performance of platforms through disciplined operational practices.
• Work with colleagues to understand user and client requirements and support the delivery of practical technical solutions.
• Create and maintain clear technical documentation, knowledge articles, operating procedures and handover notes.
• Participate in Agile ways of working, team planning, reviews and continuous improvement activities.
• Build capability across the team’s technology stack through formal learning, self-development and hands-on experience.
• Follow IT service management, change control, health and safety, security and quality processes.

Skills and Competencies

Essential

• Foundational knowledge of Linux administration gained through university, personal projects, placements or practical labs.
• An interest in HPC, cloud computing, DevOps, infrastructure and automation.
• Basic scripting or programming capability, for example Bash, Python or a comparable language.
• A logical, methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem solving.
• Strong willingness to learn, seek feedback and adapt to new technologies and priorities.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to collaborate across technical teams.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage assigned tasks and deadlines.
• Ability to document work accurately and follow agreed procedures.

Desirable

• Academic or project exposure to configuration management or monitoring tools such as FAI, Puppet, Ansible or Zabbix.
• Awareness of Agile, DevOps, CI/CD or IT service management principles.
• Familiarity with one or more of OpenStack, Kubernetes, Slurm, Docker or virtualisation technologies.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in any of the following disciplines: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems or related computing subjects.
• Equivalent technical qualifications or demonstrable practical learning may also be considered.
