COULD A BBC APPRENTICESHIP BE THE NEXT ROLE FOR YOU?

Join us as an apprentice at the BBC to give yourself the opportunity to kick-start your career in a job you'll love. We’re committed to your skills and talent development. You’ll learn on-the-job, developing your knowledge and skills in an area that interests you, whilst working towards your apprenticeship qualification with one of our learning providers.

WHY JOIN THIS SCHEME?

The BBC Level 6 Journalist Apprenticeship (JOA27) offers emerging journalists the opportunity to advance their skills through industry-leading training and hands-on experience.

Working with industry experts, you’ll contribute to trusted and impactful journalism, telling stories that inform, educate and engage audiences. Alongside this, you’ll work towards a Level 6 apprenticeship and the industry-recognised NCTJ National Qualification in Journalism (NQJ).

Want to find out more? Watch recordings from our webinar series on our Life at the BBC YouTube playlist to learn more about this scheme and other opportunities we offer, and hear from current apprentices about their experiences.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

As a Journalist apprentice, this is a brilliant opportunity to learn, grow and contribute. On this apprenticeship you can expect to:

  • Play a key role in creating trusted, high-quality news content for BBC audiences.
  • Grow your storytelling expertise through hands-on experience researching, writing and producing stories on subjects ranging from current affairs and business to sport, culture and politics.
  • Learn from experienced journalists, contribute to stories which matter to the public, collaborate with expert teams and develop your career at the world's leading public service media organisation.

You’ll study for your industry recognised apprenticeship qualification, learning both on and off the job.

This involves weekly virtual webinars and in- person bootcamps at PA Media Academy in London.

You’ll cover modules such as: Media Law, Advanced Newsgathering, Advanced Storytelling and Advanced Audience, and work towards the National Qualification in Journalism (NQJ).

The NQJ is assessed through two exams and a logbook of work.

For more information on what you will study during the scheme, please see the Journalism Apprenticeship Standard and the NCTJ

YOUR SKILLS AND ELIGIBILITY

We’re interested in your passion for working at the BBC and your enthusiasm for delivering world-class content and operational excellence to our audiences. We’re not focused on your qualifications; instead, we look for potential and offer you the opportunity to apply your transferable strengths and experience to work in different ways.

If you can bring some of these skills and experiences, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply:

  • Demonstrate strong journalistic skills and a passion for storytelling.
  • Actively follow sports news across a range of platforms.
  • Show a fascination with people, communities and the issues shaping the world around us.
  • Bring fresh, creative ideas for engaging and reaching new audiences.
  • Demonstrate motivation, adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced environment.

This scheme is aimed at people who are already demonstrating their journalistic potential. You may have gained experience through a community or student newspaper, radio station, blog, vlog, podcast or social media content creation.

We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds and experiences, including those who have completed the NCTJ Diploma, a Level 5 Journalist Apprenticeship, or another journalism qualification.
