Navigators Re, a division of The Hartford, underwrites assumed treaty reinsurance totaling over $1 billion in annual premiums across targeted lines of business worldwide. We are expanding and seeking talented, inquisitive colleagues to join our hard-working team.

Reporting into the Global Head of Credit & Political Risk Insurance and Surety, our Latin America (LatAm) will collaborate with our underwriting and our actuarial team to ensure the continued support of our cedant and broker partners. Subject business to this portfolio entails indigenous and global cedents that operate within Latin America and the Caribbean.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform financial analysis on individual principles and recommend approval or otherwise for special acceptances. This assessment will also extend to cedants that are part of the current portfolio.
  • Review the information provided by the client for a special acceptance to ensure that we have received all the information required to consider the request as per our underwriting requirements to underwrite a Surety special acceptance.
  • Utilize contracted resources along with client and broker communications to monitor any downgrading in credit ratings of principals in our portfolio and coordinate with brokers and clients to limit any new cessions and/or proactively manage the run-off of these exposures.
  • Compare existing contract wording vs renewal wording and provide feedback to the Head of Latam Surety regarding any discrepancies/ differences between the wordings.
  • Utilize established aggregation controls to ensure that the portfolio’s exposures do not exceed established parameters.
    Analyze accounts for potential action at renewal with a recommendation on renewal or not.
  • Develop and maintain existing broker and cedant relationships, as well as provide excellent service that meets the time requirements for proposals, authorizations, and special acceptances.
  • Ensure that all written business comports to the applicable underwriting guidelines.
  • Support in risk selection to ensure that the portfolio meets or beats the target plan composite ratios.
  • Provide support to reduce volatility and increase the diversification in the portfolio.
  • Partner with the actuarial team at improving/ updating current pricing tools.
  • Collaborate with our operations, claims and accounting teams to ensure that the Latam Surety portfolio’s records are up to date.
  • Review and model surety quota share treaty renewals.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in P&C underwriting, insurance operations, brokerage, claims, risk management, or related insurance disciplines preferred. Surety and/or Latin America and Caribbean experience is a plus. Candidates with a range of experience levels, including emerging talent with strong growth potential, will be considered. Position title and level will be determined upon careful review of the selected candidate’s qualifications and skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with proven numerical and analytical aptitude including the ability to interpret data, identify trends, draw conclusions to support sound underwriting decisions.
  • Ability to ready and interpret company financial statements is required; strong financial background is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, bilingual English and Spanish is required.
  • Strong communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships with brokers, cedants, and internal stakeholders.
  • Must be self-motivated, curious, organized, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and team-oriented environment.
  • Working knowledge in Excel; working knowledge in the use of SQL, Python, Tableau and Power BI is a plus.
  • Travel required throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without any current or future company sponsorship needs; additionally, The Hartford will not support any STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
  • The Hartford will provide up to $10,000 to relocate a candidate who is authorized to work in the US to Miami for this role
  • This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in a Hartford Office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$85,200 - $240,000

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
