About the role
We operate multiple businesses, including pharmacy and senior-living operations, and are building an internal AI and automation capability.
We are looking for one highly hands-on engineer and problem solver who can work directly with ownership and employees to identify inefficient processes, repair existing automation, build better systems, integrate software and deploy practical AI throughout the organization.
This is not a strategy-only AI position and not a prompt-engineering position. You should be someone who can observe a broken business process in the morning, understand the systems and data behind it, troubleshoot logs and APIs, build or improve the solution, test it, deploy it and then teach employees how to use it.
One of your first priorities will be evaluating and improving existing third-party bots and automations used in our pharmacy operations. You will become our internal technical owner: understanding what vendors have built, diagnosing problems, determining what should be fixed versus replaced, and making sure our company owns and understands its technology.
What you will do
- Spend significant time with employees observing real workflows and identifying repetitive work, data-entry problems, bottlenecks, errors and opportunities for automation.
- Audit, troubleshoot and improve existing bots and vendor-built automations, including workflows currently supported by outside vendors.
- Build production AI and automation solutions using software, APIs, workflow platforms, databases and appropriate AI models.
- Integrate business and healthcare systems through APIs, webhooks, database connections, secure file exchange and, where necessary, RPA/UI automation.
- Automate document and data-processing workflows involving PDFs, forms, structured files and other operational information.
- Build AI-assisted workflows with appropriate validation, evaluation, exception handling and human review.
- Create reliable systems with logging, monitoring, retries, alerts and clear failure states.
- Work with regulated healthcare information and follow company HIPAA/security policies.
- Maintain all source code, workflows and documentation in company-controlled repositories and systems.
- Quantify the impact of projects: labor hours eliminated, cycle time, error rates, automation success rate and employee adoption.
- Train employees to use AI safely and productively in their own work.
- Create reusable AI tools and standards so improvements spread across our pharmacy, senior-living and other businesses.
- Manage technical vendors and hold them accountable for documentation, access, reliability and deliverables.
- Work directly with ownership to turn ideas into operating systems rather than presentations.
What we are looking for
Required
- Approximately 5+ years of hands-on software engineering, systems integration, automation engineering or equivalent real-world experience.
- Demonstrated history of personally building and deploying production software or automation—not just managing developers.
- Strong Python or comparable software-development skills.
- Strong experience with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, authentication and systems integration.
- SQL and practical data-processing experience.
- Experience debugging production systems using logs, error traces and systematic root-cause analysis.
- Experience with Git and professional source-control practices.
- Experience with at least one workflow/automation platform such as n8n, Microsoft Power Automate, Make, Zapier, UiPath or similar.
- Hands-on experience integrating modern LLM/AI APIs into real workflows.
- Understanding of testing, AI evaluation, exception handling, observability and production reliability.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly to nontechnical employees.
- Curiosity about how businesses actually operate and willingness to sit with employees and watch the work being done.
- Willingness and ability to work regularly on-site in Milton, PA.
Strongly preferred
- Experience in pharmacy, healthcare, senior living or another regulated environment.
- Experience handling PHI or other sensitive regulated data.
- Familiarity with HIPAA security considerations and Business Associate Agreement requirements.
- Familiarity with healthcare interoperability such as FHIR, HL7 and/or NCPDP.
- Document-processing/OCR experience.
- RPA experience for legacy systems without modern APIs.
- Experience with Docker and AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
- Experience with process mapping, Lean/Six Sigma, root-cause analysis or operational improvement.
- Experience managing outside development or automation vendors.
Hybrid schedule
This is not a fully remote job.
During approximately the first 60–90 days, we expect the successful candidate to spend about four days per week on-site learning our systems and observing workflows.
After the initial discovery and implementation period, we expect the normal schedule to transition to approximately two to three days per week on-site, depending on active projects.
Relocation or signing assistance may be available for an exceptional candidate.
What success looks like
Within your first 90 days, you should understand our critical automation environment, establish visibility into existing bot failures, improve several high-value workflows, put company ownership/documentation standards in place, and provide ownership with a prioritized roadmap of additional AI and automation opportunities.
Over time, your job is simple to describe:
Find work that should not require as much human effort as it does today, design a safe and reliable better way, implement it, measure it and make it stick.
Compensation
Base salary: $150,000–$180,000, depending on demonstrated capability and experience.
Performance bonus.
Benefits.
Relocation/signing assistance available where appropriate.
To apply
Please submit your resume and, where available, links to GitHub, technical projects, portfolio material or other examples of systems you have built.
In your application, briefly describe one automation or integration that you personally took from problem identification through production deployment. Tell us what systems were involved, what you personally built, what went wrong along the way and what measurable result the project produced.
