Lead Detailer (Advanced Tekla exp. req.) Description
Our client, a well-established steel fabrication company, is seeking an experienced Lead Detailer to serve as both a technical expert and a people leader on their detailing team. This hands-on leadership role requires master-level proficiency in Tekla Structures and extensive experience detailing miscellaneous metals and fabricated steel products. Beyond technical expertise, they want someone who genuinely enjoys developing people. The ideal candidate is naturally curious, a lifelong learner, and someone who enjoys sharing knowledge with others. This person will lead by example—asking thoughtful questions, teaching and mentoring the team, and continuously seeking ways to improve how work gets done. The Lead Detailer will stay close to the work, providing technical guidance, reviewing drawings and models, resolving complex detailing challenges, and collaborating with Project Management, Engineering, Production, and field teams. This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished Tekla professional to apply their expertise to develop people, improve processes, and deliver high-quality work.
Lead Detailer (Advanced Tekla exp. req.) Responsibilities
• Lead, mentor, and develop the detailing team
• Serve as the team’s Tekla Structures subject-matter expert
• Build and review complex 3D models using Tekla
• Produce and review submittal, fabrication, and erection drawings
• Detail miscellaneous metals, including stairs, railings, and custom fabricated components
• Review drawings for accuracy, constructability, and fabrication efficiency
• Resolve complex modeling, shop, and field issues
• Coordinate with Engineering, Project Management, Production, and field teams
• Manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Improve detailing standards, Tekla workflows, and team best practices
• Promote continuous learning, collaboration, and accountability
Lead Detailer (Advanced Tekla exp. req.) Qualifications
• 5+ years of professional steel or miscellaneous metals detailing experience required
• Advanced/expert-level Tekla Structures experience required
• Significant experience detailing miscellaneous metals and fabricated steel products required
• Strong understanding of fabrication, constructability, and installation/erection practices required
• Knowledge of applicable AISC, OSHA, IBC, and AWS standards required
