We are looking for an experienced Civil, Structures and Pipeline engineers with a strong background in the Water and Wastewater industry to support the delivery of major infrastructure and non-Infrastructure projects and utility frameworks. The role requires experience across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept design through detailed design and construction support, where international experience and primarily UK / Ireland experience is preferred.
You will work closely with clients, contractors, Lead office outside India and multidisciplinary engineering teams, taking responsibility for technical delivery, coordination of complex interfaces and high-quality engineering solutions. The role also provides opportunities to lead projects, lead frameworks, mentor junior staff and contribute to major UK water infrastructure programmes.
You will be a self-motivated and accountable professional with strong analytical, stakeholder-management, client-facing and communication skills. Chartered Engineer status, or a commitment to achieving Chartership, would be advantageous
Your Role
As a Civil/Structural Design/ Pipeline Engineer, you are responsible for leading the design, review, and delivery of water, wastewater, and utility infrastructure projects, including water transmission pipelines, trunk mains, gravity sewers, pumping stations, reservoirs, detention tanks, storm overflow chambers, outfalls, headworks, treatment units, manholes, and associated civil and structural assets. You develop practical, safe, and buildable engineering solutions by undertaking and reviewing civil and structural designs, calculations, specifications, and drawings in accordance with relevant standards and project requirements. Your role includes managing multidisciplinary coordination across Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Process, Electrical, ICA, Geotechnical, and BIM teams, supporting projects through all design stages from concept to construction, and ensuring designs meet programme, budget, safety, sustainability, and constructability objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, review, and delivery of water, wastewater, stormwater, and utility infrastructure projects.
- Design and review civil infrastructure including pipelines, pumping stations, reservoirs, detention tanks, drainage systems, manholes, outfalls, storm overflow chambers, and headworks.
- Design and review reinforced concrete and steel structures, including liquid-retaining structures, treatment units, retaining walls, thrust blocks, valve chambers, and associated facilities.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, design reports, specifications, General Arrangement drawings, detailed design drawings, and Bar Bending Schedules (BBS).
- Develop detailed pipework designs, including pipe material selection, fittings, bedding, thrust restraint systems, utility crossings, and flow control structures.
- Undertake site layout design, drainage studies, earthworks, bulk earthworks, and grading design.
- Perform route selection studies, utility coordination, constructability assessments, utility diversion designs, and easement evaluations.
- Support hydraulic modelling, network planning, capacity assessments, flood risk studies, resilience improvements, and infrastructure investment planning.
- Utilize engineering software including Autodesk Robot, Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, and related design and analysis tools.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design interfaces and undertake 3D BIM coordination, clash detection, and Common Data Environment (CDE)-based project delivery.
- Provide construction-phase support through site queries, Technical Queries (TQs), RFIs, and design issue resolution.
- Review and check calculations, drawings, and deliverables prepared by other engineers while mentoring and supporting junior team members.
- Manage design scope, Basis of Design, project schedules, budgets, and risk assessments while ensuring compliance with relevant engineering standards, health and safety regulations, and CDM requirements.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is mandatory, with a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering or Structural Engineering considered desirable.
- 10+ years of professional experience in the design and delivery of water, wastewater, stormwater, and utility infrastructure projects.
- Strong experience in water and wastewater infrastructure design, preferably including UK and Design & Build projects.
- Proven expertise in the design of large-diameter water transmission mains, trunk sewers, rising mains, pumping stations, reservoirs, liquid-retaining structures, drainage systems, and utility infrastructure.
- Extensive knowledge of pipework design, including pipeline hydraulics, route optimization, utility crossings, buried infrastructure, utility diversions, and asset protection requirements.
- Strong understanding of site development, drainage, earthworks, bulk earthworks, site grading, constructability, and buildability considerations.
- Significant experience in the structural design of reinforced concrete and steel structures, including water-retaining and wastewater treatment structures.
- Good working knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards, and industry best practices applicable to civil and structural engineering projects.
- Experience preparing and reviewing engineering calculations, drawings, reinforcement detailing, Bar Bending Schedules (BBS), specifications, and design reports.
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Robot or equivalent structural analysis software.
- Experience in hydraulic modelling for water, wastewater, and stormwater networks.
- Proficiency in GIS platforms such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, or similar geospatial analysis tools.
- Strong multidisciplinary coordination experience across Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Process, ICA, Geotechnical, and BIM disciplines.
- Experience working within 3D/BIM environments, including model coordination, clash detection, and digital design delivery.
- Demonstrated capability in design management, change management, quality assurance (QA), and project delivery.
- Experience supporting projects through all phases, including feasibility, concept, outline design, detailed design, and construction-stage support.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and team leadership skills, including mentoring junior engineers.
- Desirable experience in seismic design of liquid-retaining structures, precast concrete design, steel connection design, and trenchless technologies such as HDD, pipe jacking, and micro-tunnelling.
