Location – Cambuslang

Salary - from £63,200 + benefits

Help us create a better future, quicker

The Lead Land Officer will lead and coordinate the land and property workstream for a defined portfolio of SP Transmission projects, taking responsibility for the effective delivery of land requirements from project development through to construction, completion and, where required, operational activity.

Working across some of the UK’s most significant network investment programmes, the role will provide technical leadership and oversight of land rights acquisition, land management and associated stakeholder engagement, ensuring land activities support project programme, cost and delivery objectives while meeting regulatory, governance and policy requirements.

The role will lead the resolution of complex land and property matters, coordinate engagement with landowners and their representatives, and ensure robust portfolio-level reporting, governance and audit-ready records across core business systems.

The Lead Land Officer will also provide technical direction, support and mentoring to Land Officers and Land Coordinators working across their portfolio, promoting consistency, effective performance and continuous improvement across the Land & Planning function.

What you'll be doing

Lead the acquisition and management of land rights across major transmission projects, providing expert technical oversight on complex land and property matters. You will identify and mitigate land-related risks, support the interpretation of legal agreements and land rights, and act as a key advisor to project teams throughout the project development and delivery lifecycle.

Working closely with Project Managers, Consents & EIA colleagues, Engineering, Legal, landowners, land agents and external stakeholders, you will drive successful project outcomes through effective stakeholder engagement and delivery of land rights strategies. You will support multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring land activities align with programme milestones, budgets and strategic objectives.

You will also lead and support the land aspects of statutory processes where required, including Necessary Wayleave and Compulsory Purchase activities, ensuring the necessary land inputs, negotiations and evidence are effectively coordinated and delivered. You will manage complex land negotiations and compensation matters, using proactive engagement and effective dispute resolution to maintain positive stakeholder relationships whilst protecting the interests of the business.

As a Lead Officer, you will oversee land-related reporting, risk management and governance activities, maintaining accurate data and audit-ready records across key systems. You will contribute to resource planning, provide guidance and mentoring to colleagues, support capability development and help drive continuous improvement across the Land team.

What you'll bring

  • Substantial experience in a Land Officer or comparable land/property role within the utilities, infrastructure or property sectors, with a proven track record of leading collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to manage complex land and property matters and support the successful delivery of major projects.

  • Proven experience acquiring and managing land rights, including negotiation of wayleaves, servitudes, easements and access agreements.
  • Demonstratable leadership qualities including coordinating others, providing technical guidance, managing complex issues and supporting team development.
  • Strong understanding of land ownership, title interpretation, legal agreements and property-related processes.
  • Demonstrable experience leading or coordinating land activities across multiple projects or programmes.
  • Experience of stakeholder engagement, including managing complex or sensitive negotiations with landowners, agents and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience of statutory land rights processes, including Necessary Wayleaves and Compulsory Purchase Orders.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, risks and delivery timelines within a fast-paced project environment.
  • Strong ability to utilise and interpret data, systems and reporting tools ensuring data accuracy and process improvement.

  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, a relevant professional body such as RICS, CAAV or similar would be advantageous.
