Lead Software Engineer, Platform

About the Role

Join a small, high-impact platform team at an AI document processing startup. You will own and strengthen the infrastructure behind customer workloads, helping ensure processing is fast, reliable, and cost-efficient as the platform scales. You will partner closely with machine learning engineers to bring models into production.

What You'll Do

• Own and improve the core platform that runs document processing jobs, with a focus on speed, reliability, and cost efficiency.

• Collaborate with machine learning teams to serve in-house models efficiently and integrate them into production pipelines.

• Build and maintain infrastructure for databases, task orchestration, workload scheduling, and cloud deployments.

• Address latency, reliability, and scaling challenges across distributed systems as workload volume grows.

• Participate in an on-call rotation and take end-to-end responsibility for platform health.

What We're Looking For

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience, including experience working at a startup and on mature systems operating at scale.

• Experience owning and scaling core infrastructure, with a strong background in distributed systems, task orchestration, and platform reliability.

• Experience building application-level software as well as infrastructure, and participating in on-call responsibilities.

• Proficiency in Python, or deep expertise in Go or Rust and willingness to transition to Python.

• Experience with cloud infrastructure and optimizing model serving.

Compensation & Benefits

Annual salary range: $220,000 to $320,000 USD. Visa sponsorship is available.

Remote within the United States, with San Francisco, California as the primary location.
