The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Maine invites applications for an ongoing teaching position at the rank of Lecturer, with an anticipated start date of August 31, 2027. During the 9-month academic year, lecturers normally teach three classes per semester. This 10.5 month position also includes 1.5 months of summer mathematics instruction (June 1 – July 15) during which 2 classes will be taught, likely online. The salary range for this 10.5 month position is $66,000 - $75,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This position is ongoing, contingent upon satisfactory performance. Lecturers at the University of Maine have a promotion track and "just cause" protection after 6 years of service.

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: a mixture of both in-person and online undergraduate teaching in mathematics and/or statistics at the 100-level, course coordination, assessment, curriculum development, and/or other leadership activity related to instruction. Additional summer teaching opportunities may be available with additional compensation. Service to the department and university, participating collegially in the life of the department, and engaging in activities that enhance one’s professional development are also expected.

This is an in-person, on-campus position.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics, applied mathematics, or statistics.
  • A graduate degree (master’s or higher) in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or mathematics education.
  • Evidence of excellent teaching of college-level mathematics.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Breadth of teaching experience will be given some preference, depending on the relevance of the classes taught to the needs of the department.
  • Evidence of involvement in curriculum development, assessment, or similar professional activities relevant to the position.
