About This Opportunity 

As a teaching and research academic Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) in one of Australia’s leading economics schools, you will join a vibrant, internationally recognised academic community, committed to teaching excellence and international scholarly recognition in your field.

For US applicants: A Lecturer (Level B) is broadly comparable to an Assistant Professor in the US, while a Senior Lecturer (Level C) is a more senior appointment with greater expectations across research, teaching and academic leadership.

Key responsibilities at Academic Level B (Lecturer) will include:

Teaching:

• Contribute to the development of new programs and course materials in the area of focus, in consultation with program advisors and stakeholders, ensuring courses are engaging, relevant and contemporary.
• Teach across a range of settings and actively contribute to educational practice and innovative curriculum design, including online learning and alternative teaching methods.
• Coordinate courses, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials, and undertake assessment and marking for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
• Maintain and improve course quality, informed by evaluation tools, to meet industry and educational standards.
• Provide high-quality support to students, including academic counselling and advice.
• Understand and apply University rules relevant to teaching and learning practice.

Research:

• Develop a publication record in world-leading or internationally excellent journals in any field of Economics.
• Work with colleagues and postgraduate students to develop and conduct joint research projects and prepare applications for competitive research funding.
• Contribute to applications for external research funding and actively seek, secure and manage research funding.
• Present at key domestic and international conferences and other leading universities.

Supervision and Researcher Development:

• Contribute to the supervision of master’s, honours and higher degree by research students.
• Contribute to the recruitment, selection and onboarding of appropriately qualified employees in accordance with University policies and procedures.
• Work to resolve conflicts and grievances promptly, in accordance with University policies and procedures.

Citizenship and Service:

• Actively develop partnerships and strengthen relationships with colleagues, industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.
• Demonstrate leadership of self and others through mentoring and collaboration.
• Efficiently manage allocated internal service roles and processes, including participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.
• Effectively perform a range of administrative functions as required.
• Provide support to other academic staff as needed, including during absences.
• Consistently demonstrate the UQ values.

In addition to the above, responsibilities at Academic Level C (Senior Lecturer) will include:

Teaching:

• Build and maintain internal and external education collaborations, and undertake and initiate professional learning in teaching.
• Lead programs, disciplines, plans, courses and/or student cohorts.

Research:

• Contribute to the development or delivery of partnerships with research end users and external collaborations that produce high-quality research outputs.
• Successfully build teams and contribute to discipline service, including service on editorial boards.

Supervision and Researcher Development:

• Establish a track record of successful supervision outcomes.
• Demonstrate responsible research conduct and lead others in this practice.
• Effectively develop supervisees’ capabilities and skills, and manage researcher development.
• Demonstrate leadership in facilitating engagement opportunities for supervisees.

Citizenship and Service:

• Consolidate an established record of internal and external service and make appropriate leadership contributions.

About You 

For Appointment at Level B (Lecturer):

Applicants should hold a PhD in Economics or a directly relevant field by the time of commencement. You will also demonstrate:

• A growing profile in teaching and research in the discipline.
• An active research program and a pipeline of work in progress expected to lead to publications in world-leading and internationally excellent journals in Economics.
• The ability to deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels across a range of settings, including small and large groups.
• The ability to coordinate courses and contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of programs, curricula and course materials in the discipline.
• The ability to supervise honours and higher degree by research students through to successful completion.
• Experience in seeking external research funding, or a clear intention to seek, secure and manage such funding.
• The ability to contribute to internal and external service activities.

For Appointment at Level C (Senior Lecturer):

Applicants should hold a PhD in Economics or a directly relevant field. You will also demonstrate:

• An established profile in teaching and research in the discipline.
• An active research program, a significant track record of publications in world-leading and internationally excellent journals, and a pipeline of work in progress targeting these journals in Economics.
• A strong record of securing and managing external research funding.
• A demonstrated record of high-quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels across a range of settings, including small and large groups.
• A strong track record of course coordination and contributions to the development and ongoing improvement of programs, curricula and course materials in the discipline.
• A solid record of supervising honours and higher degree by research students through to successful completion.
• A growing record of meaningful contributions to internal service, alongside a strong contribution to external service activities.
