This Licensed Veterinary Technician position is part of the Anesthesia Service and will assist in anesthesia interdepartmentally throughout AMC. It includes working 8.75 shifts for a total of 70 hours in a two-week pay period. The technician will support the Anesthesiologists with all the tasks associated with a both special routine =low risk and critical or emergent=high risk cases, including mitigating anesthesia, troubleshooting, developing drug and technique plans, and case training/mentoring new anesthesia personnel. Minimum Qualifications The ideal candidate for this position must have a minimum of one year of experience as a Licensed Veterinary Technician with exposure to veterinary anesthesia, surgery, emergency/critical care, or a closely related clinical environment. Candidates with advanced anesthesia skills and the ability to perform all the tasks associated with both low risk and with higher risk critical and emergent anesthesia procedures are encouraged to apply. Must have a New York State Veterinary Technician’s license or permit. Must have animal handling experience and ability to lift and restrain animals weighing up to 50 pounds Must be able to work successfully as part of a team Must also be able work independently and proactively Must establish and maintain effective, respectful working relationships and customer satisfaction with all stakeholders, including department staff, medical staff, support staff, clients, and referring veterinarians Must have ability to remain composed in stressful and emergency situations We encourage motivated technicians who are passionate about anesthesia and eager to continue developing advanced anesthesia skills through mentorship and structured training to apply. Education: Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited school. Experience: Minimum one year of clinical experience as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Previous anesthesia, surgical, emergency, or critical care experience is preferred. Specialty or referral hospital experience is preferred but not required. Duties and responsibilities Must have working knowledge of pharmaceuticals and equipment used in sedation and anesthesia Must have ability to practically handle both low risk and high risk sedation and anesthesia including special needs such as MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, airway procedures, and minimally invasive surgery. Must have ability to teach all levels of learners including starting and peer technicians, assistants, interns, & residents Must have ability to answer questions regarding anesthesia, sedation for different species from multiple departments, occasionally referring veterinarians and technicians with assistance from anesthesiologists The primary responsibility of this position is anesthesia, and providing anesthesia support for all AMC services.
