Loan Officer Engineer

The role We're creating a new profession. For decades, mortgage companies have separated the people who originate loans from the people who build the software. Loan officers work the files. Engineers build the tools. At Ralo, we think those should be the same role. A Loan Officer Engineer is a licensed Mortgage Loan Originator who also improves the platform behind every loan. You'll work directly with borrowers, structure loans, review files, solve complex scenarios, and learn the craft of mortgage origination. At the same time, you'll continuously improve how the work gets done. Every repetitive task is an opportunity to build a better workflow. Every edge case is a chance to improve the platform. Every insight you gain becomes part of how future loans are originated. Instead of your experience living only in your head, it becomes part of the company. You don't need to be a software engineer, but you should enjoy building. We use modern engineering tools to turn ideas into working products, and we'll teach you everything you need to contribute. By the end of your first year, you'll have become both an exceptional loan officer and one of the people shaping how Ralo originates every loan. What you'll own Become a licensed Mortgage Loan Originator. If you aren't already licensed, Ralo will pay for your education, licensing, and training. Originate loans. Learn the business by working directly on real files, making judgment calls, and helping borrowers through one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. Improve the platform. Design better workflows, automate repetitive work, and help turn operational knowledge into product. Own the difficult cases. Investigate scenarios that don't fit neatly into existing processes and help build better ways of handling them in the future. Work closely with engineering and product. The people closest to the work should also be the people improving the systems that support it. What we're looking for Curious people who naturally improve the systems around them. Strong communicators who enjoy learning complex domains. Builders who like turning ideas into working solutions. Comfortable learning new technology and new ways of working. Excited by ownership and early-stage startups. Nice to have Active NMLS Mortgage Loan Originator license. Mortgage or financial services experience. Experience building internal tools, automating workflows, or shipping products. Startup experience. Location This is a full-time, in-person role based in our Flatiron office in New York City.
