Job Summary

The Manager, Carcass Merchandising Site Leader is responsible for leading first shift carcass merchandising personnel and supporting second shift carcass merchandising leadership in conjunction with the General Manager, Carcass Merchandising and staff across assigned Tyson Fresh Meats beef operations. This position provides day-to-day supervision, coaching, accountability, and operational direction to ensure accurate USDA grade application, consistent carcass merchandising execution, grading system integrity, inventory alignment, shift-to-shift alignment, and timely communication of business-critical information.

This role serves as the primary site leader responsible for translating production priorities, grade projections, merchandising direction, and operational needs into consistent departmental execution across first shift operations while helping align second shift execution in partnership with the General Manager, Carcass Merchandising and staff. The Manager partners closely with Production Planning, Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, USDA personnel, and carcass merchandising leadership to address grading accuracy, staffing coverage, system performance, process adherence, shift handoffs, and issue resolution.

In addition to shift execution, this position is accountable for strengthening departmental bench depth through succession planning, structured training, continued education, and development of carcass merchandising personnel across both shifts. The Manager is expected to build capability across the team, support cross-training, identify future leaders, and promote consistent standards across all carcass merchandising functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead first shift carcass merchandising activities and support second shift execution in conjunction with the General Manager, Carcass Merchandising and staff to support accurate USDA grade application, product value optimization, customer requirements, inventory alignment, shift-to-shift continuity, and business profitability.

• Provide direct supervision, coaching, performance guidance, scheduling support, and daily accountability for first shift carcass merchandisers and assigned departmental personnel, while coordinating second shift leadership needs with the General Manager, Carcass Merchandising and staff.

• Monitor grading systems, camera accuracy, scale processes, carcass selection, tagging, discounting, regrades, yield documentation, and related reporting to ensure consistent compliance with company and USDA standards.

• Coordinate with Production Planning on grade projections, cattle flow, product availability, inventory needs, and operational priorities affecting first shift and second shift execution.

• Serve as the primary site escalation point for grading, merchandising, staffing, system, inventory, safety, shift handoff, and process-related issues across first shift operations and second shift matters requiring coordinated support with the General Manager, Carcass Merchandising and staff.

• Ensure effective communication, documentation, and accountability between first shift and second shift teams to maintain operational continuity, consistent grading practices, and timely resolution of carryover issues.

• Develop and maintain succession plans for key departmental roles by identifying high-potential team members, documenting readiness levels, and supporting individual development plans.

• Lead continued education efforts for departmental personnel, including refresher training, cross-training, USDA grade standard reinforcement, system training, process updates, and leadership development.

• Partner with carcass merchandising leadership to standardize training materials, improve onboarding processes, strengthen skill validation, and ensure consistent knowledge transfer across the department.

• Support audits, corrective actions, process improvements, and root cause analysis related to grading accuracy, camera performance, reporting integrity, inventory alignment, and departmental compliance.

• Maintain effective communication with Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, USDA partners, Production Planning, and other internal business partners to resolve issues and support business continuity.

• Compile, review, and communicate grading, program, inventory, staffing, training, handoff, and shift performance data to support timely business decisions across both shifts.

• Provide coverage and leadership support during absences, operational surges, training periods, audits, facility needs, or other business requirements as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent fresh meats, carcass merchandising, grading, meat judging, or plant operations experience may be considered.

• 7 plus years of carcass merchandising, grading, beef plant operations, meat judging, or related fresh meats experience required.

• Prior leadership, supervisory, training, shift coordination, or team lead experience preferred.

• Knowledge of USDA grade and yield standards, merchandising specifications, tagging and discounting procedures, grading accuracy, and carcass value drivers preferred.

• Ability to develop team members through coaching, cross-training, continued education, skill validation, and succession planning activities.

• Basic Microsoft Office skills required; experience with plant operating systems, grading camera systems, scale systems, scheduling tools, and reporting systems preferred.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively across plant, corporate, USDA, and cross-functional teams.

• Detail oriented with sound decision-making skills, strong follow-through, and the ability to adapt to changing business and operational needs.

Responsibilities include daily direction, coaching, training, scheduling support, performance accountability, shift-to-shift communication, succession planning, and continued education for team members within the carcass merchandising department.

Travel
