At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Manufacturing Engineer II – GS2 Final Integration (B-Shift)

Join the Manufacturing Engineering team supporting final integration of New Glenn's Second Stage (GS2). As a Final Integration ME, you'll be the main engineering support on the floor during GS2 builds. You'll solve build issues as they arise so work keeps moving and the vehicle stays on schedule.

Position Details

  • Shift: B-Shift, Monday–Thursday, 3:30 PM – 2:00 AM
  • Location: Merritt Island, FL
  • Relocation: Available

Responsibilities

  • Give real-time shipside support to technicians, quality and production leads during GS2 builds.
  • Write and revise work instructions for:
    • Torquing and fastener installation
    • Drilling, reaming and hole prep
    • Avionics, harness, & sensor installation, bonding, routing and connector mating
    • Aerospace hardware and fluid component installation
    • Thermal protection system (TPS) application and repair
    • Structural bonding and adhesive processes
  • Own and optimize the build process to increase safety, quality, and efficiency on the production floor.
  • Fix work instruction problems on the floor: redlines, clarifications, errors and sequencing changes.
  • Start and document nonconformances. Support root cause analysis, recommend dispositions, and execute corrective actions.
  • Find build roadblocks (parts, tooling, GSE, documentation, engineering holds) and escalate them to the right owner.
  • Track recurring issues across builds and drive fixes that cut redlines, NCs and cycle time.
  • Work with Design, Quality, Production Control and Supply Chain to close issues and implement improvements to decrease cycle time.
  • Identify tooling and fixture needs, and coordinate fixes or new designs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a relevant engineering role, preferably with a manufacturing focus.
  • Able to read engineering drawings, specifications and GD&T.
  • Able to work B-shift on a regular basis, with occasional overtime or weekends based on build needs.

Preferred Qualifications We're looking for candidates with experience in some or all of the following:

  • Aerospace vehicle assembly: Installing large structures and subsystems on flight hardware, including install sequencing, interface checks, and system-level checkouts.
  • Torque and fastener installation: Torque-critical joints, torque sequencing, lockwire, fastener selection and installation verification.
  • Drilling and hole prep: Drilling, reaming, countersinking and fastener hole quality on flight structures.
  • Avionics and harness installation: Harness routing and securing, connector mating, bonding and grounding, and supporting avionics checkouts and functional tests.
  • Fluid component installation: Installing and verifying valves, regulators, tubing, ducts and fittings, including leak checks and proof testing.
  • Precision clean and FOD control: Handling and installing precision-clean hardware, contamination control and cleanroom or controlled-area practices.
  • Thermal protection systems (TPS): TPS application, inspection and repair processes.
  • Structural bonding: Surface prep, adhesive application, cure control and bond inspection.
  • Root cause analysis and corrective action: Leadingriods such as 5 Whys, fishbone or 8D, and making sure corrective actions stop repeat issues.
  • Process development, 5S and Lean: Improving build flow, cutting cycle time and waste, and setting up organized, standardized work areas.
  • Tooling design, fabrication and development: Designing, building or modifying tooling, fixtures and handling equipment, and bringing new tooling from concept to use on the floor.
  • On-the-floor support: Working on the floor with technicians to solve problems in real time and keep production moving.
  • Manufacturing Engineering responsibilities: Working with nonconformance systems, MES/eWO, PLM and BOM reconciliation. Experience with JIRA, Confluence or similar tracking tools.
  • Working Off-Shift: Comfortable making decisions on your own with limited support during off-hours.

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.
