MARINE AND NAVAL ENGINEERS SEEKING TO MOVE SHORESIDE IN THE DATA CENTER SECTOR
M&E Critical Operations Technician - Location: Groningen / Eemshaven, Northern Netherlands
Relocation & financial support offered.
Shift Pattern: Rotating days and nights
Take Your Engineering Career Ashore
Are you a Marine Engineer, Naval Engineer, Marine Electrical Engineer or experienced engineering professional from offshore operations or power generation?
Are you considering a move into a permanent, land-based engineering career without losing the technical challenge of working with complex machinery and critical systems?
PRS Recruitment Services is working with a major US-headquartered hyperscale data center organisation expanding across Europe, with plans to develop over 1GW of additional data center capacity over the next 3–5 years.
We are recruiting Critical Operations Technicians to join an in-house engineering team at a major data center facility in Groningen / Eemshaven, Northern Netherlands.
Your engineering experience could provide an excellent foundation for a career in the data center industry.
Why Your Experience Could Be Relevant
Modern data centers rely on sophisticated electrical, mechanical, power and cooling infrastructure.
Many of the systems and engineering disciplines used in marine, naval and offshore environments have direct relevance to critical facilities operations.
We welcome applications from engineers with experience in:
- Shipboard electrical distribution and power generation.
- Generators, emergency power and UPS systems.
- HV/LV electrical systems and switching.
- Mechanical plant, pumps, motors and auxiliary systems.
- HVAC, refrigeration, cooling and environmental control.
- Planned maintenance, breakdown response and fault diagnosis.
- Safety-critical engineering operations and permit-to-work procedures.
Candidates from the Royal Navy, Merchant Navy, offshore engineering, marine operations, industrial power generation and related technical environments are encouraged to apply.
You will need relevant technical qualifications, practical engineering experience and a willingness to learn the specific operational requirements of a hyperscale data center.
Previous data center experience is not essential where your technical background and transferable skills are suitable.
The Role
Working within a dedicated critical facilities team, you will help maintain the infrastructure that supports continuous data center operations.
Your responsibilities will include planned and reactive maintenance, fault-finding, repairs, equipment inspections, safe systems of work and supporting the reliability of critical electrical, mechanical and cooling systems.
This is a hands-on engineering position rather than a purely supervisory or monitoring role.
Salary & Benefits
- Basic salary, depending on experience.
- 15% shift allowance.
- 9/10% personal performance bonus.
- 9/10% company performance bonus/Stocks
- 8% Dutch holiday allowance.
- Annual training allowance for relevant courses.
- 25 days' annual holiday.
- Relocation financial assistance for eligible candidates.
- Skilled migrant sponsorship support, subject to eligibility.
Estimated overall earning potential: €70,000–€85,000+, depending on experience and applicable package components.
Why Make the Move?
- Build a long-term career ashore in a growing technical sector.
- Transfer your existing engineering expertise into a new environment.
- Develop specialist knowledge of hyperscale data center infrastructure.
- Access ongoing technical training and career development.
- Explore relocation support and eligible immigration sponsorship for a move to the Netherlands.
If you are ready to explore a new direction for your engineering career, we would welcome a confidential conversation.
