About the Role
Join the mechanical engineering team at a Series A industrial recycling technology company. You will design and build the physical systems behind metal sorting equipment, helping turn designs into reliable machines operating in demanding scrapyard environments.
What You'll Do
Design singulation, conveyance, and material handling systems that deliver scrap to sensors at precise positions and speeds.
Own machine frames, enclosures, guarding, and sensor mounts, maintaining optical alignment under vibration and harsh conditions.
Manage tolerance stack-ups, GD&T, design for manufacturing, and fabrication drawing packages in coordination with vendors and machine shops.
Lead on-site installation, commissioning, testing, and hands-on equipment improvements.
Develop throughput and uptime models, facility layouts, line balancing plans, and maintenance access strategies.
What We're Looking For
3 to 7 years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience in hardware, automation, robotics, aerospace, semiconductor, or a similarly complex environment.
A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline from a strong engineering program.
Experience owning mechanical or electromechanical systems from design through fabrication, testing, and commissioning, including on-site installation work and travel.
Proficiency with SolidWorks, CAD, GD&T, and released drawing packages.
Familiarity with material handling and complex mechanical systems, with experience in structural, vibration, or tolerance stack-up analysis.
Working knowledge of servo and pneumatic actuation, PLCs, and FMEA; vendor sourcing and machine shop coordination experience is valuable.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $135,000 to $190,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is available.
Location
On-site in San Francisco, California, United States.
