About the role

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Tradesperson to join the Reduction Maintenance team at New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelter (NZAS). You will help keep critical production equipment safe, reliable and available by completing planned and unplanned maintenance, diagnosing faults and contributing to continuous improvement.

This is a great opportunity for a skilled, hands-on tradesperson who enjoys solving practical problems and wants to continue developing in a large-scale industrial environment.

This is a shift position working Roster 2.

Two 12 hours days from 8:00am to 8:00pm, two 12 hour nights from 8:00pm to 8:00am then four days off.

Based at Tiwai near Invercargill, you can enjoy easy access to Southland’s outdoor experiences, including fishing, snow sports, rugged landscapes, waterfalls and wildlife.

Reporting to the Reliability Maintenance Supervisor and working as part of the Reduction Maintenance team, you will:

  • Complete planned and unplanned mechanical maintenance within production time constraints

  • Diagnose equipment faults and carry out repairs across a wide range of production equipment

  • Identify health, safety and environment opportunities to improve equipment, processes and behaviours

  • Implement improvement initiatives and apply robust defect elimination practices

  • Manage your workload and act as a point of contact for assigned jobs

  • Contribute to continuous improvement in safety, cost, reliability and productivity

About you

You will have excellent communication skills and experience working both independently and as part of a team. You will be self-motivated, willing to learn and committed to the safety of yourself and those around you.

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

  • A Mechanical trade qualification or another transferable trade qualification

  • Experience completing planned and unplanned mechanical repair and diagnostic work

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the flexibility to respond to changing maintenance requirements

  • The ability to communicate clearly and work effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
