Microbiology & Contamination Control Manager
📍 Central Scotland | 💼 Permanent | 🧪 Pharmaceutical / Biologics Manufacturing | ✈️ Relocation support available
This is a rare chance to lead both QC Microbiology and the site-wide Contamination Control Strategy (CCS) at a growing pharmaceutical manufacturer. You’ll shape how the site works, not just how it tests. Relocation support is available, so Central Scotland could be your next move.
The role
You’ll lead the QC Microbiology and Environmental Monitoring teams and drive a forward-thinking CCS aligned with EU GMP Annex 1 and global expectations. You’ll have a real voice in facility design, process development and day-to-day operations, with the visibility and influence to match.
What you’ll do
- Lead and develop the QC Microbiology and Environmental Monitoring teams, covering testing of raw materials, in-process and finished product
- Keep the laboratories GMP-compliant and inspection-ready at all times
- Own and evolve a data-led, risk-based site-wide CCS
- Build contamination control into facility design, material flows and operational processes
- Act as site SME for microbiology, aseptic processing and cleanroom operations
- Be the microbiology lead for audits and regulatory inspections, and contribute to deviations, investigations, CAPAs and change controls
- Partner with Manufacturing, MSAT, QA and Engineering on aseptic behaviours, cleaning and EM programmes, process design, tech transfer and validation
- Lead trend analysis and drive initiatives that reduce contamination risk
- Train the site and champion a culture of proactive risk identification and continuous improvement
What you’ll bring
- Solid experience in GMP pharmaceutical or biologics manufacturing
- Expertise in aseptic processing, environmental monitoring and contamination control
- A track record of leading and developing microbiology or laboratory teams
- Strong knowledge of global GMP regulations, including EU Annex 1
- Excellent stakeholder management and the ability to influence in a matrix organisation
- A degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences or a related discipline (preferred)
Why you’ll love it
- Shape and lead a site-wide CCS rather than inherit one
- Work in a cutting-edge biopharmaceutical environment
- Play a key part in regulatory readiness and future site developments
- A highly visible leadership role with real cross-functional influence
- Relocation support to help you and your family settle in Scotland
- Central Scotland offers great career opportunities alongside easy access to Edinburgh, Glasgow and some of the UK’s best countryside
