What You’ll Do
Our Milling Operations Internship offers students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience within a fully integrated flour milling operation while working alongside experienced leaders in the food manufacturing industry.
This internship is designed to provide meaningful exposure to flour milling, grain handling, packaging operations, quality assurance, food safety, maintenance, and supply chain management. Interns will spend time in both office and plant environments, gaining firsthand insight into how products move from grain receiving to finished product while contributing to projects that support operational excellence and long-term growth.
Whether you're exploring a career in food manufacturing, agriculture, operations, or supply chain management, this internship will provide valuable real-world experience and professional development opportunities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Observe and learn the daily operations of various facility departments, including flour milling, grain elevator, packaging, maintenance, quality assurance, and sanitation.
- Collaborate with and learn from team members across the organization, including plant leadership, to gain an understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
- Learn the flow of raw materials and finished products throughout the operation, including grain receiving, cleaning, milling, flour transfer, packaging, storage, and distribution.
- Assist with projects and initiatives related to production, process improvement, maintenance, quality assurance, food safety, sanitation, and operational efficiency.
- Gain an understanding of how products are produced and how departments work together to serve customers and support business goals.
- Develop knowledge of the end-to-end supply chain and the factors required to operate a successful manufacturing business.
- Learn the key inputs, outputs, performance measures, and operational challenges of a flour milling facility.
- Participate in daily and weekly production, safety, and operational meetings.
- Engage actively in a learning-focused environment by asking questions, seeking feedback, and taking initiative.
What We're Looking For
- Currently pursuing a degree in Agriculture, Food Science, Milling Science, Grain Science, Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
- Strong interest in pursuing a career within the food manufacturing, agriculture, or milling industry.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong curiosity and desire to gain knowledge from experienced industry professionals.
- Initiative to participate, communicate effectively, and ask thoughtful questions.
- Strong attention to detail, integrity, dependability, and work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for training, vendor visits, or project support.
