Sky Lakes Medical Center is seeking an accomplished, visionary Medical Oncologist or Hematologist-Oncologist to serve as our Oncology Medical Director. Practicing as the regional oncology anchor across Southern Oregon and Northern California, you will lead a dedicated, high-functioning multidisciplinary team, chair key cancer committees, and balance high-level strategic influence with relationship-driven clinical care.

Executive Leadership & Clinical Balance

We have structured this 1.0 FTE hybrid role with sustainable pacing so you have the dedicated bandwidth to steer operations, mentor providers, and lead institutional quality:

• The "4+1" Executive Cadence: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Enjoy 4 days of direct outpatient clinical practice and 1 full day (8 hours) of protected administrative leadership time each week.

• No Weekend/Holiday Clinic: Outpatient clinic operates strictly weekdays—no clinic weekends or holidays required.

• Manageable Patient Volume: Practice relationship-centered medicine averaging 12–15 patients per day. Dedicated visit templates feature 60 minutes for new consults and 30 minutes for follow-up appointments.

• Clinical Breadth: Case mix averages ~80% medical oncology and 20% hematology. Bone marrow biopsies are entirely optional and routinely performed on campus by Interventional Radiology.

• Outpatient Focus & Low-Stress Call: Inpatient care is covered 100% by the Hospitalist team—inpatient rounding is not required (hospitalists handle admissions and only call for phone consults). Specialty physicians designate 8 telephone-only call days per month (including 1 weekend). Calls are pre-screened 24/7/365 by Conduit Health Partners RN triage using Schmidt-Thompson protocols, resulting in very low physician involvement averaging ~6 calls per month (primarily direct ER and hospitalist consults).

Your Impact as Medical Director

As the physician leader and clinical face of our oncology service line, you will collaborate closely with the Cancer Treatment Center Director and Senior Administration to shape cancer care across our 10,000-square-mile catchment area:

• Strategic Leadership & Operations: Partner with administrative leadership to steer clinical operations, expand service delivery, enhance patient experience, and develop outside regional clinical partnerships.

• Clinical Quality & Tumor Board: Chair the Sky Lakes Oncology Committee, lead quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives, and participate actively in our monthly multidisciplinary Tumor Board.

• Provider Mentorship & Growth: Spearhead the recruitment, onboarding, and clinical mentorship of medical oncologists and advanced practice providers (APPs) as we expand the permanent provider team.

• Medical Staff Governance: Serve as the primary liaison and medical oncology advisor to the Sky Lakes Medical Staff and Governing Board.

Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Support

You will step into a turnkey, fully integrated cancer program equipped with advanced on-site services:

• Dedicated Infusion Suite: 12 infusion chairs staffed by 5 Chemo-certified RNs, 2 dedicated oncology clinical pharmacists, 1.5 pharmacy technicians, and an MA/refill coordination team.

• Radiation Oncology & APP Partners: On-site full-time Radiation Oncologist, 2 permanent Oncology Nurse Practitioners, a dedicated oncology PA, clinical manager, and comprehensive support staff.

• Patient Navigation & Survivorship: Robust navigation model featuring 6 patient navigators, a dedicated social worker, cancer registrar, and specialized authorization/scheduling teams.

• Foundation-Funded Holistic Care: Support services funded by the Sky Lakes Foundation, including patient support groups, nutrition education, and a certified mastectomy fitter and licensed cosmetologist offering free custom fittings for wigs, bras, and prosthetics.

• Advanced Diagnostics On Campus: On-site phlebotomy with same-day hospital lab turnaround, diagnostic imaging (IR, MRI, CT, US, NM, Mammography), and a permanently parked PET/CT mobile unit performing PSMA scans. Subspecialty consults available locally include Cardiology, ENT, Pathology, Pulmonary, General Surgery, and Urology.

Executive Compensation & Premier Incentives

We offer a transparent, top-tier compensation package built for executive leadership, earning security, and long-term retention:

• Total Annual Compensation: $725,000 (inclusive of directorship stipend and guaranteed earnings).

• Sign-On Incentive: $100,000 total sign-on bonus (distributed over 3 years).

• Retention & Professional Allowances: $4,000 annual CME funding plus 5 dedicated paid CME days, and $1,000 annual licensing/dues allowance.

• Relocation Assistance: Comprehensive moving allowance to Southern Oregon.

• Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF): As an independent, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit health system, Sky Lakes is a qualifying employer for federal PSLF as well as state loan repayment (SLRP) opportunities.

Qualifications

• Education & Credentials: MD or DO from an accredited program; Board Certification and fellowship training in Medical Oncology or Hematology/Oncology; active or eligible for an unrestricted Oregon medical license.

• Leadership Experience: Minimum of 5 years post-fellowship clinical practice with a proven background in clinical quality, physician mentorship, multidisciplinary tumor boards, or committee leadership.
