Position Summary

The Division of Occupational Therapy at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full-time, open rank, open track faculty position. Applications are welcome from candidates across all areas of occupational therapy scholarship and practice. Rank, track, and salary will be commensurate with educational background and experience.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will teach in the Division's Master of Occupational Therapy program, maintain an independent program of scholarship, mentor graduate students, and contribute to Division and institutional service. New faculty receive a reduced teaching assignment during the first year, and a formal mentoring plan developed with the Division Director and a senior faculty mentor. Faculty at the assistant rank receive annual pre-tenure review with written feedback, and the Division supports candidates through a structured timeline toward promotion.

The Division and the Institution

The University of New Mexico is New Mexico's flagship institution, classified as R1 for very high research activity, and designated as both a Hispanic-Serving Institution and a Minority-Serving Institution. The Division of Occupational Therapy sits within the School of Medicine at the UNM Health Sciences Center, which places occupational therapy faculty alongside colleagues in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, and public health.

Faculty draw on research infrastructure across the Health Sciences Center, including the Clinical and Translational Science Center, the Center for Development and Disability, Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes), the Memory and Aging Center, and the Brain and Behavioral Health Institute. The Clinical and Translational Science Center provides pilot funding, biostatistical consultation, regulatory support, and research navigation to investigators at all career stages. Faculty in the Division hold external funding from federal agencies and state sources, and the Division supports new investigators in developing competitive applications.

The entry-level Master of Occupational Therapy program holds ACOTE accreditation through 2032/2033. The Division also offers a post-professional occupational therapy doctorate.

Location

Albuquerque sits at 5,300 feet in the high desert of central New Mexico, with roughly 310 days of sun each year and a cost of living below the national average. The Sandia Mountains rise at the eastern edge of the city and provide hiking, skiing, and biking within thirty minutes of campus. New Mexico is home to 23 sovereign tribal nations, and the state's cultural and linguistic diversity shapes both the Division's curriculum and its research agenda.

Responsibilities

  1. Teaching and course development in the Master of Occupational Therapy program, with assignments determined in consultation with the Division Director
  2. Development and maintenance of a program of scholarship, including dissemination and pursuit of external funding appropriate to rank
  3. Mentorship and advisement of graduate students
  4. Service on Division, School of Medicine, and University committees, and service to the profession

Relocation assistance is available and negotiable at the time of offer.
