About Snowy:

Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the iconic Snowy Hydro-electric Scheme, gas and diesel electricity generating plants, and contracted wind and solar energy in the National Electricity Market. We also provide electricity and gas to over 1.5 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy.

Snowy 2.0, currently under construction, is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.

About the position:

Are you ready to play a critical role in one of Australia’s largest and most iconic renewable energy infrastructure projects?

As an Operational Readiness Engineer on the Snowy 2.0 project, you will bridge the gap between engineering execution, enterprise software systems, and operational transition. Reporting directly to the Operational Readiness Manager, you’ll lead the charge in ensuring assets, technical documentation, and cross-functional teams are fully prepared to transition safely and seamlessly from commissioning into operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Readiness Coordination: Support and execute the Snowy 2.0 Operational Readiness Framework, tracking key milestones, registers, action logs, and risk mitigations across multiple workstreams.

  • Technical & Asset Documentation: Partner with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), engineering leads, and vendors to ensure O&M manuals, maintenance strategies, and technical instructions meet operational standards.

  • Maintenance Strategy Development: Facilitate cross-functional reviews of asset maintenance strategies and spare parts requirements to ensure maintenance can be executed from day one.

  • Stakeholder Integration: Build collaborative working relationships across Engineering, Commissioning, Asset Management, Quality, HSE, and Completions teams.

  • Reporting & Assurance: Maintain operational readiness dashboards, reports, and KPIs, ensuring clear visibility for project leadership and smooth transition at handover.

About the location:

This role is located at our Head Office in Cooma, NSW working a standard Monday to Friday work week. If you’re not local to the area, we can look at relocation or a FIFO arrangement for the right candidate.

About you:

  • Education: Tertiary qualification in Engineering (or related discipline) OR a relevant trade qualification paired with significant field/industry experience.

  • Experience: Previous experience working on large-scale industrial, energy, mining, or major infrastructure projects (Power Generation or Hydro experience highly regarded).

  • Technical Integration: Proven capability in bridging technical engineering challenges with business processes and systems (e.g., Aconex, asset management systems).

  • Systems & Documentation Expertise: Strong track record in operational transition, commissioning support, maintenance strategy reviews, or asset management.

  • Big-Picture Analytical Mindset: Ability to step back from technical detail to spot systemic gaps, handoff risks, and process improvements across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of driving cross-functional alignment
