TGEN Operator: Salary Range $107,796 - $128,390 plus superannuation (Remuneration Package including allowances from $198,218 - $227,103, determined by applicants level of experience, knowledge and skills)
In addition to standard pay and conditions, staff working as operators may be eligible for other allowances, plus opportunity for pay progression, bonuses and training.

Territory Generation is the largest producer of electricity in the Northern Territory with assets from Alice Springs to Darwin. We use gas, diesel and solar technologies to provide power across the Territory.
Your New Role
Based permanently at Owen Springs Power Station (OSPS) and report to Ron Goodin Power Station (RGPS) as required, the Operator will work shift work as required to achieve the safe, reliable and efficient monitoring and operation of generating plant and associated equipment across the differing generation technologies within the Alice Springs Power System (ASPS).
The role will work closely with the Southern Remote Operations Centre to support safe and efficient operations, including local operation of part or all of the power station when directed.
Your accountabilities include:
- Carry out all duties in accordance with Territory Generation’s safety, environmental and quality policies, safety principles, corporate values and strategies. Modelling Territory Generation’s values in order to drive a constructive culture.
- Work with the Southern Remote Operations Centre in Alice Springs to achieve safe and efficient operation of the power station, including operating part or all of the power station in local mode when directed by the Southern Remote Operations Centre.
- Prepare, issue and close out Permits to Work, and undertake equipment isolation activities in accordance with Territory Generation’s Safe Systems of Work requirements.
- Conduct operations routines & work on the power station, including (but not limited to) routine plant inspections including gas turbines, reciprocating engines and associated plant, gas fuel pressure reduction & reticulation network, fuel oil storage & conditioning and delivery systems, equipment lubrication, routine tests, identification of plant defects through the business ERP (Pronto).
- Undertake operational and technical commissioning tasks, plant changeovers, and the starting and stopping of generating units as required.
- Monitor station performance and prepare accurate operational reports, including plant performance information, plant failures, defects, abnormal operating conditions and other operational issues as required.
- Participate in 24/7 shift roster.
- Direct, undertake or supervise work as necessary to maintain the safety of personnel on the site and to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the power station plant.
- Train, mentor and support the development of new operators and employees as required.
- Develop the capability required to progress to Senior Operator level and operate Territory Generation’s generating assets across the Alice Springs network from the Southern Remote Operations Centre.
Your skills & experience:
- Certificate III or higher (Trade) in Electrotechnology and/or Certificate III or higher (Trade) in a relevant Mechanical Trade or relevant skills, knowledge and experience.
- Relevant experience or demonstrated capability in the operation of generation plant and associated equipment, including gas turbines, reciprocating engines, fuel systems and balance of plant.
- Good written and oral communication skills and an ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures and organisational backgrounds.
- Proven ability to analyse technical systems and assess, investigate and report anomalies, defects and abnormal operating conditions.
- Demonstrated capability and commitment to develop toward Senior Operator level and operate Territory Generation’s generating assets across the Alice Springs network from the Southern Remote Operations Centre.
- Well-developed computer literacy, including the ability to use business systems for defect reporting, work management and operational reporting.
- Sound knowledge and experience within a Permit to Work system that ensures safety to all personnel and ability to work unsupervised yet still maintain constant interaction with operational staff.
- Demonstrated ability to apply Safe Systems of Work requirements, including equipment isolations, permit coordination and safe access to plant for planned and unplanned maintenance.
- Ability to participate in continuous 24/7 roster
- Ability to carry out duties in accordance with Territory Generation’s safety, environmental and quality policies and corporate values and strategies.
Desirable skills & experience:
- Experience in the operation of gas turbines, dual fuel and spark fired reciprocating engines, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Experience in defect identification and reporting, with the ability to provide accurate and high-quality defect information.
- Trade related experience within the power supply industry and ideally dual fuel and spark fired reciprocating engines
This is a residential role based in Alice Springs. This is an ongoing role and requires Australian Citizenship or other eligible visa type.
