Are you an experienced Orthoptist seeking genuine clinical variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to work alongside leading subspecialist ophthalmologists?
Auckland Eye is Aotearoa New Zealand’s premier eye care practice, guided by our purpose of delivering Life Changing Eye Care. We are seeking a skilled clinician to join our integrated Optometry & Orthoptics team in Auckland.
This role offers a stimulating, multidisciplinary environment where your diagnostic insight directly informs treatment pathways across a complex and diverse case mix.
The Opportunity
You will manage independent clinics across paediatrics, ocular motility, and neuro-ophthalmology, with true clinical ownership within your scope:
- Specialist Assessment: Conduct comprehensive orthoptic evaluations, including binocular vision, stereopsis, ocular motility, and diplopic field mapping.
- Complex Diagnostics: Support the investigation and assessment of neurogenic, myogenic, mechanical, and supranuclear disorders.
- Targeted Interventions: Formulate and manage individualized treatment plans, including amblyopia therapies, prism prescriptions, and orthoptic exercises.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work in direct partnership with ophthalmologists and clinical colleagues to shape patient outcomes.
- Quality & Innovation: Engage in clinical audits, research initiatives, and service improvements that advance high-standard care.
What You’ll Bring
- Recognised Qualification: BMedSci, BSc (Orthoptics), Diploma of British Orthoptics, or an equivalent qualification.
- Clinical Confidence: Proven clinical orthoptics background with the independence and sound judgement to manage varied case presentations.
- Patient-Centred Focus: Clear, empathetic communication and the interpersonal ability to build trust with patients, families, and team members.
- Specialist Interest: Experience or demonstrated interest in paediatric orthoptics, complex motility, neuro-ophthalmology, or clinical research is an advantage.
Why Auckland Eye?
- Collaborative Clinical Culture: Work within a collegial, forward-thinking specialist group that values your expertise and encourages peer collaboration.
- Professional Growth: Maintain variety in your practice with access to complex cases, subspecialist mentorship, and ongoing professional development.
- Relocation Support: We warmly welcome applications from both New Zealand-based clinicians and overseas professionals. For international candidates, tailored relocation support and transition assistance can be discussed.
