Job Description
We are seeking an intelligent, diligent, and highly capable individuals to serve as a U.S. Immigration Paralegals in our Nigeria Support Office. This is a demanding legal-support role requiring excellent written English, strong attention to detail, careful factual analysis, mature judgment, strong interviewing skills, and the ability to review and organize large volumes of documents accurately while working under strict deadlines.
Responsibilities:
Review and analyze legal documents
- Review legal, medical, financial, immigration, court, employment, and other supporting documents.
- Identify inconsistencies, missing information, contradictions, evidentiary gaps, and potentially harmful facts.
- Prepare case chronologies, evidence tables, document summaries, issue lists, and factual memoranda.
- Cross-check information across applications, declarations, interview notes, and supporting documents.
Conduct client and witness interviews
- Conduct structured interviews with clients and witnesses under attorney supervision.
- Gather detailed information on immigration history, family relationships, abuse/persecution, medical history, financial circumstances, previous applications, and other relevant matters.
- Handle sensitive and traumatic cases with professionalism, patience, and empathy.
- Prepare accurate and organized interview notes.
- Avoid leading clients or encouraging inaccurate statements.
Draft declarations and witness statements
- Prepare first-person client declarations, affidavits, and witness statements.
- Ensure documents accurately reflect the client's experience and maintain their voice.
- Organize information chronologically and address inconsistencies where necessary.
- Revise documents based on attorney feedback and verify key facts against source documents.
- Never invent, assume, exaggerate, or alter facts.
Prepare immigration applications
- Assist with VAWA, asylum, waiver, family-based immigration, adjustment of status, employment authorization, and other immigration applications.
- Prepare supporting declarations, evidence, exhibits, filing indexes, and document packets.
- Assist with responses to RFEs, NOIDs, NOIRs, and other government notices.
- Support preparation of motions, briefs, and case materials for USCIS, immigration courts, and the BIA.
- All legal filings and strategies must be reviewed and approved by an attorney.
Evidence collection and case organization
- Prepare document-request lists and evidence checklists.
- Follow up with clients for outstanding documents and information.
- Review documents for completeness, relevance, legibility, and consistency.
- Organize and index case files according to firm standards.
- Maintain accurate case notes and ensure all relevant communications and documents are properly recorded.
Deadline and case management
- Track all attorney, court, government, client, and internal deadlines.
- Maintain tasks and deadlines in the firm's case-management system.
- Provide reminders and status updates to attorneys and team members.
- Escalate potential delays or missed deadlines immediately.
- Clarify unclear deadlines, assignments, filing methods, or deliverables.
- Meet internal deadlines and communicate anticipated delays in advance.
Client communication
- Communicate professionally, respectfully, and compassionately with clients.
- Provide authorized administrative and case-status updates.
- Respond to client communications within the firm's required timeframe.
- Document important client communications.
- Refer requests for legal advice or legal judgment to the supervising attorney.
Quality control
- Proofread and review all work before submission.
- Verify names, dates, addresses, identification numbers, immigration history, and other key information.
- Ensure forms, declarations, exhibits, and supporting documents are consistent.
- Follow the firm's templates, formatting, checklists, and filing standards.
- Correct errors promptly and apply feedback to future work.
Requirements
- BSc in any field; a Law degree is not mandatory
- 0–2 years; entry-level candidates are welcome. (Must have gone for NYSC, and finished Law school)
- Experience in any field, particularly relevant backgrounds, may include: law or legal studies; English, communication, or journalism; psychology or social work; political science or international relations; sociology; investigation or compliance; claims handling; case management; research; human resources; customer service; or another document-intensive or interview-based profession.
- Exceptional written and spoken English
- The ideal candidate should be genuinely open to learning.
This is an entry-level role.
Benefits
Net Salary: 223,000 monthly
Benefits: Health insurance, annual bonus, and a relocation allowance for candidates living outside Ibadan
