NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

The role involves supporting the delivery of clinical pharmacy services, ensuring the safe and effective supply of medicines to patients. The post holder will work as part of the pharmacy team in both the main pharmacy department and ward-based settings, liaising closely with the multidisciplinary team. The position also contributes to the ongoing redesign and development of pharmacy services.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and will be determined on a case-by-case basis following interview and during the pre-employment verification process. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Permanent, Full-time
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Base Locations: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow
  • Shift Pattern: Participates in the 11:00 am - 6:30 pm rota

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of clinical pharmacy services across a range of specialties.
  • Ensure the safe and effective supply of medicines to patients.
  • Work within the main pharmacy department and on hospital wards.
  • Liaise with pharmacists, pharmacy staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Rotate through near-patient dispensing areas within adult and children's hospitals.
  • Dispense discharge prescriptions at ward level.
  • Provide ward stock top-up services.
  • Support dispensing activities within the dispensary.
  • Contribute to the ongoing redesign and improvement of pharmacy services.
  • Maintain high standards of patient care and service delivery.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Proficient level of general education at National 5/Standard Grade level or above.
  • English and Maths qualifications are essential.
  • Proficient IT skills, including:
    • Microsoft Word
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Outlook email systems
    • Typing skills
  • Completion of the SVQ in Pharmacy Services Group Award (SCQF Level 6) in line with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) requirements.
  • Completion of a comprehensive on-the-job training programme (typically lasting 18 months).
  • Previous experience in a healthcare, pharmacy, or customer-facing role is essential
  • Experience using stock control systems is Desirable
  • Ability to plan and organise workload effectively to meet service demands is Desirable
