Platform Engineer - National Security

Location: Central London, 5 days onsite

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience + bonus

Clearance: Active SC or DV required

We're supporting a fast-growing engineering SME that is expanding its presence across the UK National Security space and looking to strengthen its Platform and Infrastructure Engineering capability in London.

Alongside this, you'll be joining a business at an exciting point in its growth. The team is still relatively small, meaning you'll have the opportunity to make a genuine impact, develop your technical skills and progress as the company expands.

They're looking for technically capable, curious engineers rather than people who simply tick every box on a job description. Whether your background is in Platform Engineering, DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure or Linux Systems Engineering, they're interested in people with strong technical fundamentals who enjoy solving complex problems.

What you'll be doing

• Designing, building and maintaining secure, scalable infrastructure and platform environments
• Developing and improving cloud infrastructure, particularly across AWS
• Working with Linux-based systems, automation and scripting
• Building and maintaining containerised environments using technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Developing and improving CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
• Supporting Infrastructure as Code and automated infrastructure provisioning
• Improving platform reliability, security, scalability and performance
• Collaborating closely with Software, Data and DevOps Engineers
• Contributing to technical design and architecture decisions
• Working across greenfield and evolving National Security programmes
• Taking on greater technical responsibility as the engineering team grows

What we're looking for

• Experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering or a closely related technical discipline
• Strong understanding of Linux systems and infrastructure
• Experience working with cloud technologies, ideally AWS
• Knowledge of automation and scripting, particularly Python or Bash
• Familiarity with containerisation, deployment processes or CI/CD
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and engineering fundamentals
• An ability and willingness to learn new technologies
• Someone who enjoys working within a small, collaborative and hands-on engineering environment
• Ambition to develop technically and progress as the business grows
• Current SC or DV clearance
• Ability to work 5 days onsite in Central London

Desirable experience

• AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift, Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD pipelines, Git, Python, Bash, Infrastructure as Code and cloud-native technologies
• Experience supporting highly available, secure or complex infrastructure environments
• Exposure to platform architecture, infrastructure automation or DevSecOps practices
• Previous work within Defence, Government or National Security environments would be beneficial

You don't need experience across all of these areas. Technical aptitude, curiosity and the ability to learn are equally important.
