Stem Cell Transplant Unit
This unit is a specialized 15-room intermediate care unit focused on Cellular Therapy, Stem Cell Transplantation, and recovery. With a supportive 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio on both day and night shifts, nurses have the opportunity to deliver highly personalized care while developing advanced expertise in hematology-oncology nursing.
Within Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy, you'll have the opportunity to care for patients receiving some of the most sophisticated treatments available while serving in a leadership position that directly impacts quality, safety, and team success.
Nurses on this unit care for patients throughout critical phases of their treatment and recovery, working closely with an interdisciplinary team to manage complex therapies, recognize complications early, educate patients and families, and support them through a significant and often life-changing healthcare journey.
Key Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals before and after stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy.
- Administer chemotherapy, immunosuppressive medications, and other complex therapies according to established protocols.
- Initiate, maintain, and monitor HSCT and CAR-T cell infusions and care for patients participating in clinical trials.
- Initiate and monitor blood product transfusions.
- Closely assess patients for potential complications, including graft-versus-host disease, infection, and organ dysfunction, and facilitate timely intervention when changes occur.
- Apply advanced assessment and critical-thinking skills to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Educate patients and families about cellular therapy and transplant processes, treatment plans, potential side effects, and post-transplant care.
- Partner with patients and families to establish goals and implement interventions that support recovery and quality of life.
- Foster a compassionate and supportive environment focused on patient dignity, advocacy, and holistic care.
- Deliver culturally responsive and equitable care to patients and families of diverse backgrounds, languages, beliefs, and education levels.
- Practice in accordance with RN scope of practice, organizational policies, and applicable federal and Virginia requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.
Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
The pay range for this role is $41.05 - $54.15 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.Benefits
