The ideal candidate will provide engineering support through maintenance and reliability processes within the highly automated Hot Strip Mill (HSM) to meet the business goals of ArcelorMittal Calvert. This position will have a strong focus on maintenance strategy and Equipment Maintenance Plan (EMP) management, including ownership of the EMP process, monthly review of Time-Based Maintenance (TBM) activities, and leadership of Preventive Maintenance (PM) reviews. The role will also support equipment reliability improvements, reduction of unplanned downtime, elimination of repeat failures, and continuous improvement of maintenance plans and strategies. The Basics: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering discipline required. • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in a heavy industrial or highly automated manufacturing environment, with demonstrated experience in maintenance and reliability engineering. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex industrial equipment and systems and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, equipment specifications, and technical documentation. Strong technical knowledge of industrial mechanical and/or electrical equipment and systems. Experience identifying equipment failure causes and implementing sustainable corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability. Ability and willingness to provide hands-on technical support during equipment breakdowns, outages, and other critical operational events. Demonstrated experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA/RCA), Cause Mapping, Kaizen, or other structured problem-solving methodologies. Working knowledge of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles and maintenance strategy development. Proficiency in collecting, analyzing, and presenting equipment performance data to support reliability improvements and technical decision-making. Proficiency in developing and communicating technical reports, proposals, scopes of work, and recommendations to multiple levels of the organization. Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint). The Extras: Steel Hot Rolling or similar heavy industrial manufacturing experience preferred. Experience with Predictive Maintenance and condition monitoring technologies, including vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound, oil analysis, Motor Circuit Analysis, or other PdM technologies. Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks. Working knowledge of SAP or other CMMS platforms. Proficiency in Power BI or other data visualization tools. Experience leading and/or supporting equipment reliability improvement projects. Experience supporting major mill outages, commissioning activities, and equipment startups. Experience supporting capital improvement projects, including technical evaluations, equipment modifications, installation, and commissioning. Ability to effectively communicate and present maintenance performance, findings, and recommendations to different levels of the organization. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING Serves as the HSM owner of the Equipment Maintenance Plan (EMP) process, ensuring maintenance strategies are properly developed, documented, implemented, reviewed, and continuously improved. Leads the periodic review and optimization of Preventive Maintenance (PM), Time-Based Maintenance (TBM), and other maintenance activities to ensure tasks, frequencies, scopes, and resources remain technically justified and effective. Coordinates and facilitates monthly TBM and maintenance strategy reviews, engaging Reliability, Maintenance, Planning, Operations, and other technical stakeholders to evaluate performance, identify gaps, and define improvement actions. Develops, reviews, and improves technically based maintenance strategies for critical HSM equipment using equipment criticality, failure history, failure modes, maintenance history, inspection findings, and equipment performance data. Owns, maintains, and updates key maintenance and reliability KPIs related to EMP, TBM, PM compliance, maintenance strategy effectiveness, and other assigned reliability processes, ensuring data accuracy and timely reporting. Analyzes maintenance and reliability data, including equipment failures, downtime, maintenance history, PM performance, costs, and other relevant KPIs to identify trends, bad actors, gaps, and improvement opportunities. Prepares, consolidates, and presents maintenance and reliability performance, KPI results, EMP status, trends, findings, and improvement opportunities to HSM leadership and other stakeholders. Ensures EMPs, maintenance strategies, PM requirements, technical recommendations, and supporting documentation are properly maintained, standardized, and aligned with established maintenance and reliability processes. Leads periodic reviews of maintenance plans with equipment owners and technical specialists to validate maintenance requirements and incorporate equipment modifications, operating experience, failure learnings, inspection findings, and new technical information. Tracks maintenance and reliability improvement actions, ensuring clear ownership, proper documentation, timely follow-up, and effective closure of identified gaps and recommendations. Supports Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and other structured problem-solving activities by reviewing findings and ensuring applicable corrective actions and lessons learned are incorporated into EMPs, PMs, and maintenance strategies. Supports the development, standardization, and continuous improvement of HSM maintenance and reliability processes, procedures, standards, KPIs, and reporting practices, collaborating with Maintenance, Reliability, Operations, Planning, and Project teams to ensure equipment modifications and operational changes are properly incorporated into applicable maintenance plans and strategies.
