The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team focused on translating novel biomarkers of Alzheimer disease and neurodegeneration from research into clinical practice.

The position will support studies within the Mayo Clinic Study of Aging and the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, integrating basic research, clinical laboratory medicine, assay evaluation, and biomarker interpretation. Areas of focus include biomarkers for the diagnosis, staging, and prognosis of Alzheimer disease and related dementias.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct clinical and translational research studies focused on Alzheimer disease biomarkers and related neurodegenerative disease biomarkers.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including laboratory medicine professionals, neurologists, neuropsychologists, statisticians, bioinformaticians, and clinical researchers.

  • Contribute to manuscript preparation, abstract submissions, scientific presentations, grant applications, and development of figures and tables for publication.

  • Maintain accurate records of study design, analytical methods, data analyses, and regulatory or protocol-related documentation.

  • Mentor junior research staff, trainees, or students as appropriate and contribute to a collaborative and rigorous research environment.

Research Projects:

  • Assessment of blood biomarkers for Alzheimer disease diagnosis, prognosis, and clinical implementation.

  • Evaluation of assay performance and sources of variability affecting biomarker measurement and interpretation.

  • Development of biomarker-based prediction and risk models incorporating clinical and demographic variables.

  • Studies addressing preanalytical factors, assay harmonization, reference intervals, and reporting strategies for neurodegenerative disease biomarkers.

  • Translation of biomarker research findings into clinically actionable laboratory testing frameworks.

A Research Fellow position in Life Sciences (LS) will require knowledge of either clinical-based research or laboratory-based research often obtained from a postdoctoral program.

A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Alzheimer disease or neurodegenerative disease biomarker research.

  • Strong quantitative skills, including experience with statistical analysis of clinical or laboratory data.

  • Familiarity with clinical laboratory quality standards, assay performance evaluation, or regulatory expectations is desirable, but not required.

  • Demonstrated scientific productivity through peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, or conference presentations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Application Materials:

Qualified candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research interests and career goals, and contact information for three references.
