Our client is a fast-growing life sciences company that uses advanced immune profiling and machine learning to help drug developers and physicians make better-informed clinical decisions. The company supports more than 30 clinical trials for leading biopharmaceutical organizations, has grown revenue by roughly 300% year over year, and is cash-flow positive. With a lean team of experienced scientists, technologists and operators, it is entering an important stage of growth.
The Role
Our client is seeking a Senior Associate, Finance to lead its finance function as the company's sole finance hire, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The Senior Associate will be responsible for financial reporting, forecasting and cost analysis, and will play a central role in board reporting, investor communications and strategic planning. This is a high-visibility role with a clear path toward finance leadership as the organization grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the month-end close process, including reconciliations, accruals and preparation of financial statements
- Build and maintain a production cost model to measure the true cost of serving each customer and to inform pricing decisions
- Develop runway forecasts, profitability reforecasts and scenario analyses to support strategic decision-making
- Prepare board materials, investor updates and supporting documentation for future fundraising
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, and manage the relationship with an outsourced bookkeeping provider
- Take on broader operational responsibilities as the company scales, such as supply forecasting, compensation modeling and cap table management
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in finance operations, accounting or FP&A
- Demonstrated ability to build financial models from scratch, including operating models, unit economics, margin analysis or cost models
- Direct, end-to-end ownership of the month-end close process
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets
- Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, including accrual accounting, revenue recognition and reconciliations
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in financial reporting
- A track record of measurable results, such as shorter close timelines, cost savings or more accurate forecasts
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to executives, board members and investors
- Ability to work on-site 5 days a week in Salt Lake City, Utah or San Mateo, California (relocation assistance available)
- Authorized to work in the United States (H1B transfers and OPT candidates will be considered; new H1B sponsorship is not available)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in biotechnology, life sciences, diagnostics or clinical research
- Experience in an early-stage or high-growth company
- Experience using AI tools to speed up financial analysis while keeping outputs accurate
