About the role:

The Senior Claims Consultant maintains strong internal and external quality and risk controls through audits, training and monitoring, while applying specialist Claims expertise to support the Protection strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

External activities

  • Deliver agreed Protection plans, initiatives and client consulting activity in line with priorities set by the Head of Underwriting & Claims.
  • Lead the Claims client audit programme, translating findings into targeted training, process improvement and risk control actions.
  • Design and deliver practical client Claims training aligned to audit findings and client needs.
  • Review clients’ internal audit processes, monitor quarterly results and escalate material risks or changes to the Head of Underwriting & Claims and relevant Client Manager.

Internal activities

  • Support the Protection Market Monitoring Group’s agreed activity.
  • Peer review and, when required, assess complex claims across all Protection lines of business.
  • Own UKLB’s internal Claims audit function and report key risk indicators clearly.
  • Work with Biometrics to monitor in-force treaty performance, providing six-monthly reporting to the Protection Leadership team.
  • Develop and maintain UKLB’s Claims philosophy.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Strong commercial understanding of the Life and Health insurance and reinsurance markets.
  • Confidently engages internal stakeholders and external clients at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage client expectations.
  • Produces clear, high-quality written material.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

  • ACII qualification or equivalent degree-level education would be advantageous.

Regulatory & Conduct Requirements:

In addition to the responsibilities set out above, the Senior Claims Consultant role will also become responsible for:

  • Ensure compliance with Insurance Distribution Directive.
  • Ensuring compliance with Munich Re’s Code of Conduct and the FCA Conduct Rules.
