Job Description

The Role

The Senior Cybersecurity Incident Coordinator serves as a senior member within GM’s cybersecurity incident response team. This role provides end-to-end incident coordination of complex and high-impact security incidents across the GM cooperation.

The Senior Incident Coordinator is responsible for establishing clarity, accountability, and momentum throughout the incident lifecycle. They translate technical findings into business-relevant risk decisions, ensure response activities align with the GM Incident Response Plan, and provide leadership with timely insight into incident status, business impact, containment progress, root cause, and residual risk.

This role operates with a high degree of independence and judgment, particularly during ambiguous, time-sensitive, and cross-functional incidents. The Senior Incident Coordinator is also expected to strengthen incident response maturity through process improvement, operational governance, coaching, and effective use of metrics and reporting.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the coordination of complex cybersecurity incidents from initial triage through containment, eradication, recovery, and post-incident review.
  • Serve as the primary coordination point between GM Security Operations, Incident Handlers, application security, vulnerability management, infrastructure teams, business partners, and leadership.
  • Apply approved tactical containment methods to impacted hosts, applications, identities, and other technology assets while considering business continuity, operational risk, and recovery requirements.
  • Direct the collection, validation, and documentation of victim, asset, application, and business-impact information to support informed risk-based decisions.
  • Maintain accurate incident status, action tracking, decision logs, stakeholder communications, and escalation records throughout the response lifecycle.
  • Communicate incident actions, emerging risks, technical findings, root cause analysis, recovery considerations, and residual risk to technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Identify dependencies, remove response blockers, establish clear ownership, and drive timely execution of incident response actions across multiple teams.
  • Ensure incident response activities are performed consistently with approved policies, standards, playbooks, service-level expectations, and governance requirements.
  • Track, analyze, and report Security Operations incident metrics, including response performance, containment progress, trends, recurring control gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead or facilitate post-incident reviews to identify systemic weaknesses, lessons learned, corrective actions, and opportunities to improve organizational resilience.
  • Partner with security and technology leaders to improve incident response processes, playbooks, automation, documentation, and operational readiness.
  • Coach and mentor incident coordinators and other team members, helping to build consistent decision-making, communication, and response practices across the organization.
  • Represent the incident response function in cross-functional initiatives, risk discussions, control assessments, exercises, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develop and deliver executive-level communications that clearly convey cybersecurity incidents, business impact, and response actions to senior leadership.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain incident response toolsets to streamline operations, improve processes, and increase response effectiveness.
  • Operate as a recognized subject-matter leader for cybersecurity incident coordination and response operations.
  • Provide leaders with concise, actionable reporting that supports enterprise risk decisions and prioritization.
  • Develop and deliver executive-level communications that clearly convey cybersecurity incidents, business impact, and response actions to senior leadership.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain incident response toolsets to streamline operations, improve processes, and increase response effectiveness.
  • Support on call rotation during off hours and holidays.
  • Assist and develop incident metrics for executive leadership.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate incomplete or conflicting data, establish priorities, and communicate defensible conclusions.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating complex cybersecurity incidents or other high-impact technology events across multiple technical and business stakeholders.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief senior leaders and translate technical risk into clear business implications.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and make timely decisions in high-pressure, ambiguous, and rapidly changing situations.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-management skills, with a demonstrated ability to build trust across technical teams, business partners, and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, globally distributed team environment.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or developing other team members and contributing to a culture of operational excellence.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain attention to detail, and drive accountability through the full incident lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, process discipline, and effective cybersecurity governance.
  • Strong project management skills.
