Senior Database Administrator

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Database Administrator to join a leading enterprise IT environment, where you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and managing enterprise database platforms across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid infrastructures.

You will be responsible for ensuring the availability, security, scalability, and performance of critical database systems while supporting strategic IT initiatives and contributing to the continuous improvement of the organisation's technology landscape.

What is expected of you?

• Design, implement, and manage high-performance database solutions across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimise database efficiency through advanced tuning techniques
• Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and integrations while ensuring data integrity and minimal business disruption
• Implement and maintain database security measures, including encryption, access controls, auditing, and regulatory compliance
• Design, manage, and regularly test backup and disaster recovery solutions to support business continuity
• Lead database-related projects, including capacity planning, infrastructure optimisation, and modernisation initiatives
• Collaborate with software development teams to optimise database schemas, indexing strategies, and query performance
• Perform root cause analysis on database incidents and implement long-term improvements to minimise recurrence
• Automate database administration tasks using scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python
• Mentor and support junior database administrators while promoting technical excellence and knowledge sharing
• Maintain accurate documentation, audit trails, and change management records
• Participate in IT governance, architecture planning, and strategic technology initiatives
• Support cyber resilience exercises and disaster recovery testing
• Evaluate emerging database technologies and recommend improvements to existing environments
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call support roster as required

What are you expected to bring?

• A minimum of 3–7 years of experience in Database Administration within an enterprise IT environment, depending on academic qualifications
• An MQF Level 6 qualification or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field will be considered an asset
• Strong hands-on experience managing enterprise database environments across on-premises and cloud platforms
• Experience with database performance tuning, optimisation, monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery
• Good understanding of database security, governance, and regulatory compliance frameworks, including GDPR
• Experience planning and executing database migrations and upgrades
• Knowledge of automation and scripting using PowerShell, Python, or similar technologies
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across technical teams
• Professional database certifications (such as Microsoft Azure DBA Expert, Oracle DBA Professional, or equivalent) will be considered an advantage
• Experience working with database monitoring and management tools will be considered an asset
• A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
• Passion for emerging database technologies and continuous improvement
