Job Description

SENIOR DATAOPS ENGINEER (CLOUDERA ADMIN) (MUMBAI, ON-SITE)
Joining and work location: Mumbai, strictly on-site at the client
Experience: 3+ years in production Cloudera administration | Joining: Immediate | Employment: Full time, XenonStack Private Limited

ABOUT XENONSTACK
XenonStack is a Data and AI Foundry for Agentic Systems, enabling enterprises to design, deploy, operate, and scale intelligent agents across digital and physical environments. We build enterprise-grade platforms across the agentic stack:
- Akira AI - Reasoning and agent orchestration.
- ElixirData - Agentic analytics intelligence. Explainable, decision-centric analytics for measurable business outcomes.
- NexaStack - Agentic infrastructure automation. Secure, compliant AI deployment across cloud, edge, and on-prem.
- MetaSecure - Trust, compliance and defense. Continuous assurance with AI-BOMs, risk scoring, and agentic security.
Our mission is to accelerate the world's transition to AI + Human Intelligence by making agentic systems reliable, responsible, and enterprise-ready.

ABOUT THE ENGAGEMENT
We are building a Managed Services team to support a large-scale enterprise data platform. The platform spans Cloudera on AWS, an on-premises Oracle data warehouse, Oracle GoldenGate replication, Apache Spark for ETL and data processing, and Alation for data governance. L1 support is handled by our existing team; this role is part of L2/L3 operations.

ROLE MISSION
Own the administration, stability and performance of the Cloudera platform, acting as the L2/L3 expert for cluster issues and preventive maintenance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer and monitor Cloudera clusters on AWS using Cloudera Manager or CDP management tools.
- Manage core services including HDFS, YARN, Hive, Impala and Spark on YARN.
- Handle L2/L3 incidents: node and service failures, resource contention, job queue and capacity issues.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement preventive and corrective actions.
- Plan and execute patching, upgrades, configuration changes and capacity management.
- Support cluster security configuration, including Kerberos and Ranger policies, with the Data Security team.
- Tune Spark and cluster resource settings to improve job performance.
- Automate repetitive operational tasks and guide Junior DataOps engineers.
- Maintain technical documentation, runbooks and change records.

REPORTING
Reports to the Managed Services delivery lead; works with the Data Security team and the client's platform team.

HOW WE WORK WITH AI
AI is part of the daily workflow at XenonStack, not an add-on.
- Within XenonStack's own systems, AI tools are open for use: log and incident analysis, runbook and RCA drafting, scripting and documentation.
- At the client site in Mumbai, you follow the client's compliance and information security policy: use only client-approved tools, and never put client data, logs, credentials, queries or configurations into any tool the client has not approved.
- Every AI-assisted output is verified by you before it is relied on or shared.
- Come ready to talk about what is in your AI stack, how you verify its output, and how you keep it compliant in a regulated environment.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- Cluster availability within agreed SLAs, with no repeat incidents for the same root cause.
- Upgrades and patches delivered on plan, with tested rollback.
- Capacity issues spotted and planned for before they hit jobs.
- Juniors resolve more incidents on their own because of your runbooks.

MUST-HAVE SKILLS
- Hands-on Cloudera (CDP/CDH) administration in production
- Strong working knowledge of HDFS, YARN, Hive, Impala and Spark
- Cloudera Manager, cluster monitoring, alerting and log analysis
- Cluster upgrades, patching and capacity planning
- Kerberos and Ranger fundamentals
- Strong Linux administration skills

GOOD-TO-HAVE SKILLS
- Cloudera on AWS (CDP Public Cloud); working knowledge of AWS (EC2, S3, IAM)
- Spark performance tuning
- Automation using Shell, Python or Ansible
- Familiarity with Alation

CANDIDATE PROFILE
- B.E./B.Tech/MCA or equivalent
- Experience administering big data platforms in enterprise production; regulated-industry exposure preferred
- Strong analytical and RCA skills, ownership mindset and ability to work in a regulated environment

HIRING PROCESS
Pre-screening assessment (about 10 minutes, at application) → Technical interview (video) → Technical assessment round (live video; in person at our Mohali office for Chandigarh Tricity candidates) → HR and Leadership round → Background verification → Offer.

TERMS
- Joining and work location: Mumbai, strictly on-site at the client.
- Immediate joining.
- Regulated production environment; background verification (BGV) is mandatory.
- Support model: 16x5 core support with P1 24x7 on-call, on a rotational basis, as per the client's support model.
- Relocation support and on-call allowance are discussed at the offer stage.
- Compensation as per company policy and budget band.

HOW WE WORK
We value deep work, clarity, and execution over activity. You will be expected to clarify, plan, execute, and escalate with options, not wait to be told. Ownership sits with the individual, and outcomes are measured, not effort.

OUR VALUES
Agency - Be self-directed and proactive | Taste - Sweat the details and build with precision | Ownership - Take responsibility for outcomes | Mastery - Commit to continuous learning and growth | Impatience - Move fast and challenge inertia | Customer Obsession - Always put the customer first

WHY JOIN US
- Run a large-scale enterprise data platform.
- AI-first environment: work alongside the agentic platforms we build.
- Great Place to Work-Certified, 14+ years, headquartered in Mohali.
