Job Description Summary
The Senior Engineer – Gas Turbine Aero Dynamics is responsible for formulating, planning, independently leading, and executing aero design and analysis activities for New Product Introduction (NPI), technology maturation, and fleet support programs across gas turbine products. In this role, you will own aerodynamic and aero-thermal design deliverables with responsibility for technical quality, schedule, and business impact. You will provide technical leadership to resolve challenging aerodynamic, heat transfer, and secondary flow issues, while partnering with cross-functional teams to improve performance, operability, reliability, and cost. This role offers the opportunity to apply engineering depth, creativity, and systems thinking to develop world-class gas turbine products and advance technologies that support more efficient and lower-carbon power generation.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead and execute aerodynamic and aero-thermal design and analysis of gas turbine combustion system components using sound engineering principles and in compliance with business standards, design practices, procedures, and product/program requirements
- Own and deliver analysis and design work for NPI, NTI, fleet, RCA, and research projects with full accountability for quality, schedule, and technical recommendations.
- Develop, maintain, and improve aerodynamic, heat transfer, and secondary flow analysis models; interpret results and translate them into clear design actions and risk mitigation plans.
- Demonstrate component ownership by understanding product design intent, field history, operability challenges, and fleet issues to identify opportunities for performance, durability, and reliability improvement.
- Evaluate technical options, make independent engineering decisions, and recommend the most effective path forward based on data, physics, program priorities, and business needs
- Collaborate proactively with global cross-functional experts and teams including mechanical design, thermal systems, performance, operability, manufacturing, sourcing, services, and systems engineering to optimize product outcomes.
- Drive simplification, productivity, and continuous improvement in analysis methods, design practices, tools, templates, and engineering workflows.
- Proactively identify, promote and champion continuous improvement opportunities for quality process. Identify the gaps in analytical vs. lab/field data and develop/enable the tools and design practices.
- Identify gaps between analytical predictions and test, lab, or field data; improve methods, tools, and design practices to enhance model fidelity and engineering rigor.
- Mentor engineers by sharing domain expertise, reviewing technical work, and helping build aero design capability across the team.
- Contribute to technology roadmaps and innovation initiatives that improve aerodynamic efficiency, thermal performance, operability, and customer value.
- Prepare and present technical reviews with clear conclusions, recommendations, and risk assessments to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Thermal Sciences, Aerodynamics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10+ years of engineering experience in gas turbine or turbomachinery aerodynamic and/or aero-thermal design and analysis.
- Strong technical experience in aerodynamics, heat transfer, secondary flow analysis, and turbomachinery design for gas turbine applications.
Desired Characteristics
- Recognized technical depth in aero dynamics / aero-thermal design with strong systems thinking and interface awareness.
- Strong analytical, project management, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a global matrix organization.
- Good understanding of gas turbine product design, combustion systems, operability, fleet history, and performance improvement opportunities.
- Proven ability to interpret complex results, communicate recommendations clearly, and influence technical decisions across teams.
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical capability building across global teams.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated mindset of ownership, accountability, customer focus, and risk identification/mitigation.
