About the Organisation

Our client is a well-established community services organisation delivering a broad range of support across regional Victoria and surrounding communities.

The Community Legal Centre provides free, confidential legal advice, information, referrals and casework across a range of legal matters. The service also undertakes community legal education, law reform and systemic advocacy.

A key feature is its integrated service model, working alongside professionals across social work, mental health and financial counselling to provide coordinated support to people experiencing complex and challenging circumstances.

About the Role

As Senior Generalist Solicitor, you will provide high-quality legal advice, assistance and representation to vulnerable and disadvantaged clients across a broad range of legal matters.

Family law represents a significant component of the workload, although the organisation is open to experienced generalist solicitors with transferable experience across areas such as family violence, civil law, credit and debt, welfare rights, mental health and child protection.

You will also provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced solicitors and work closely with the Principal Solicitor as a senior member of the legal team.

The position provides the opportunity to contribute beyond individual casework, including law reform, systemic advocacy, service planning and special projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice, assistance and representation across a varied generalist caseload, with strong family law exposure
• Undertake casework, advocacy, negotiation and participate in the Duty Lawyer roster
• Mentor and support less experienced solicitors as a senior member of the legal team
• Work collaboratively with social work, mental health, financial counselling and other professional services
• Contribute to law reform, systemic advocacy, service planning and special projects
  
  

What You'll Bring

• Admission as a legal practitioner in Victoria with an unrestricted Victorian Practising Certificate and at least 3 years' post-admission experience
• Strong generalist legal experience, particularly in family law, with exposure to areas such as family violence, civil law, welfare rights, mental health or child protection highly regarded
• Demonstrated ability to provide legal advice and representation to vulnerable clients, with strong casework, advocacy and negotiation skills
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to work sensitively with diverse clients
• Strong commitment to social justice, human rights and access to justice, plus a current Victorian Driver's Licence and willingness to travel
