Senior Housing Support Worker (Children’s Services) | 11523 | Permanent Contract type | 37 hours per week | £38,510 to £40,444 per annum | Grade I | County Hall, Norwich

Norfolk Children’s Services have been rated Outstanding by Ofsted in 2026.

The Housing Support service works across Help, Care and Protection to work alongside case-holding teams to offer specialist housing support and advice to increase housing security for some of Norfolk’s most vulnerable children and young people.

The Senior Housing Support Worker post is a new role. The role bridges operational delivery and leadership, ensuring effective case management, timely interventions, and high-quality outcomes for service users. It is anticipated, at this stage, that about 50% of the working week would be spent on direct service delivery and 50% on providing management breadth. While there is no direct line management associated with this role, cover for the Team Manager, when absent, and oversight of some key team functions is expected.

Ideally, you will have a background in housing and/or children’s social care and will be ready to take on a leadership role. You will have a working knowledge of key housing legislation and be able to give advice to Children’s Services’ teams in relation to this. You will have a good understanding of the causes of housing instability and an appreciation of the multi-disciplinary approach to alleviating this.

You will be able to work well under pressure and support the management of a fast-paced service with a high traffic of referrals from our Family Help, Looked After Children, Life Beyond Care and Children with Disabilities teams.

This post is predominantly office hours, but there may be the occasional need to work outside of this. The Housing Support Service is a county-wide offer so although the team base is in County Hall, hybrid working and working from other Children’s Services’ office bases will be necessary. Flexible working arrangements are possible but working days must include a Monday.

To work within this environment, you will need to be committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. You will need to be reliable, be confident in your decision making and supporting others to make sound professional decisions. You will build good personal relationships and demonstrate good communication skills and high professional standards.

Before you apply, we recommend reading the full Job Description and Person Specification to help you demonstrate you meet the criteria.

For an informal discussion please call Sharon Matthews, Team Manager – 01603 222293.
