The consultancy has built a strong position in the Irish market and is well established on the major infrastructure programmes currently in delivery and in planning. Continued growth across the infrastructure portfolio has created the need for an experienced estimator to strengthen the team. This is an appointment driven by workload and pipeline rather than replacement, with real scope to shape how the estimating function supports the wider practice.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PROJECTS

You will lead estimating and early-stage cost advice on major infrastructure programmes across Ireland — transport and rail, roads, water and wastewater, energy and utilities, and associated public and private capital schemes. Ireland’s infrastructure pipeline is substantial and sustained, with significant national investment committed across all of these areas.

The work sits at the front end of the project lifecycle, where the influence is greatest. You will be producing order of cost estimates and cost plans, building and interrogating benchmarking data, testing option appraisals and advising clients on affordability and risk long before a contractor is appointed. Getting this right determines whether a scheme proceeds at all.

You will work within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment alongside cost managers, project managers and technical specialists, with direct exposure to senior client stakeholders including public bodies, utilities and major private developers. The practice is collaborative, the standards are high, and there is a strong culture of knowledge sharing across sectors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead estimating and early-stage cost advice on major infrastructure programmes across Ireland
• Prepare order of cost estimates, cost plans and budget forecasts from concept through to detailed design
• Build, maintain and interrogate benchmarking data to test and validate estimate assumptions
• Undertake option appraisals and value engineering exercises to support client investment decisions
• Identify and quantify cost risk, supporting the development of appropriate risk and contingency allowances
• Present estimates and cost advice directly to client stakeholders, defending assumptions and methodology
• Review contractor tender returns and provide independent assessment of pricing to the client
• Work alongside cost management and project management colleagues to ensure continuity from estimate through to delivery
• Contribute to bid and fee proposal activity, supporting the practice in winning new infrastructure commissions
• Support and mentor junior estimating and cost management staff

WHAT YOU NEED

• Substantial estimating or cost planning experience on major infrastructure programmes, gained in consultancy, client-side or contractor environments
• Strong grounding in early-stage cost estimating, benchmarking and cost planning methodology
• Experience across transport, rail, roads, water, energy or utilities infrastructure — breadth across several is beneficial but depth in one is equally valued
• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Economics or a related discipline
• Confident presenting and defending cost advice to senior client stakeholders
• MRICS, MSCSI or equivalent chartership is advantageous; support is provided for those working towards it
• Comfortable working across multiple concurrent commissions to consultancy deadlines
• Willingness to relocate to Dublin, with relocation support provided

For UK nationals the move is unusually straightforward — the Common Travel Area means no visa or work permit is required, and you retain the right to live, work and access services in Ireland on the same basis as at home.
