North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) is a Queensland Government Owned Corporation responsible for the development and management of four strategically significant ports at Hay Point, Mackay, Abbot Point and Weipa. Operating within a complex commercial, regulatory and stakeholder environment, NQBP plays an important role in connecting Queensland’s resources and industries with domestic and global markets.
About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager Infrastructure and Operations, the Senior Manager Asset Services will lead NQBP’s asset management strategy, asset planning, lifecycle optimisation and asset performance governance across the organisation’s infrastructure assets.
This is a significant senior leadership opportunity requiring an experienced asset management professional who can bring strategic direction, technical capability and a whole-of-lifecycle approach to critical port infrastructure.
The role will lead asset reliability and optimisation, ensuring performance and risk are effectively managed through robust asset management systems, inspection regimes and maintenance strategies. It will also drive the continued development of NQBP’s Asset Management System, Asset Management Plans and Geospatial Information Systems across all port locations.
Key Priorities will include:
• Leading NQBP’s strategic approach to asset management, reliability, lifecycle planning and optimisation
• Strengthening asset performance and risk management through effective inspection, maintenance and condition monitoring strategies
• Continuously improving NQBP’s Asset Management System and Asset Management Plans in line with industry best practice
• Coordinating asset inspections, upgrades, maintenance, renewals and disposals
• Developing KPIs and lifecycle cost information to support evidence-based asset and investment decisions
• Managing Asset Services budgets and operational expenditure to optimise whole-of-life value
• Working collaboratively across NQBP to align asset priorities with corporate and long-term infrastructure requirements.
About You
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished asset management professional with strong strategic capability, leadership experience and technical expertise across infrastructure asset management, lifecycle planning and asset performance.
You will bring demonstrated experience developing and implementing asset management strategies, Asset Management Plans, maintenance strategies, inspection regimes and condition monitoring requirements. You will understand how asset condition, reliability, risk and lifecycle cost should inform maintenance, renewal and investment priorities.
Experience with contemporary asset management systems and frameworks, including ISO 55001 principles or equivalent, will be important. You will also bring demonstrated leadership capability, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams, developing capability and aligning people and resources with organisational priorities.
Experience within ports, infrastructure, marine, transport, heavy industry, resources or another regulated operating environment will be highly regarded, along with exposure to asset management information systems, geospatial systems and digital asset data.
Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Asset Management or a related discipline are essential, together with RPEQ registration or eligibility to obtain registration within an agreed timeframe.
This role will suit a strategic and technically credible asset leader who can take a whole-of-portfolio perspective and strengthen the systems, information and decision-making underpinning NQBP’s critical infrastructure.
Why This Role Is Great
This is an opportunity to influence the long-term management and performance of critical infrastructure supporting more than half of Queensland’s international trade by volume through NQBP’s ports at Weipa, Abbot Point, Mackay and Hay Point.
Based in Mackay, the role offers genuine scope to strengthen asset performance, reliability and lifecycle value across one of Queensland’s largest port authorities. Relocation assistance and a generous transition period are available for the right candidate, making this an attractive opportunity for experienced infrastructure and asset management professionals looking to make an impact.
