My client is a fast-growing deep-tech startup developing a novel manufacturing process. They are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Sydney on a permanent basis and take ownership of a critical high-precision placement module.

The role

• Own a high-precision placement module, including its interfaces, for a novel semiconductor manufacturing machine.
• Design mechanisms that hold sub-micron accuracy.
• Develop novel designs for nanometer-scale stability, accuracy and repeatability, accounting for thermal expansion, vibration and structural response.
• Apply precision design fundamentals: design for stiffness, flexure mechanisms, exact constraint design, metrology loop isolation and material selection.
• Own and quantify the error budget for your module.
• Run structural, modal and thermal FEA, tolerance studies and perform hand calculations.
• Build, test and verify your own prototypes.
• Produce engineering data packs with drawings, GD&T and documented design rationale.

About you

• Senior-level mechanical engineer with hands-on experience designing mechanical placement or imprint processes in semiconductor tooling.
• Experience with tools such as hybrid or thermocompression bonding heads, nanoimprint lithography, wafer-to-wafer bonding and bond alignment, flip-chip and advanced die attach, or contact and proximity mask aligners.
• Proven record of designing, building and verifying a high-load precision mechanism that holds sub-micron accuracy.
• Led projects from concept and prototype through to a product or production tool.
