Senior Mechanical Estimator – HVAC, Plumbing & Piping

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Estimator specializing in HVAC, Plumbing, and Mechanical Piping to join a well-established mechanical contracting firm in Newport News, Virginia. With over 70 years of continuous growth serving commercial, industrial, and institutional clients across Southeastern and Central Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina, this company offers the stability of a proven organization and the career potential of one that promotes from within. This is a lead estimating role with broad scope — from conceptual design through final bid — and an opportunity to build lasting relationships with general contractors, suppliers, and owners throughout the region. What You'll Be Doing Prepare accurate HVAC, Plumbing, and Mechanical Piping estimates from conceptual design to final bid Review drawings, specifications, and construction documents to develop competitive pricing strategies Perform design calculations and assist with equipment and material selections Identify labor factors, contingencies, and cost-saving opportunities Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, suppliers, subcontractors, and project owners Review vendor and subcontractor quotes and incorporate them into final estimates Attend pre-bid meetings, turnover meetings, and project setup meetings Develop labor budgets for awarded projects Help mentor and supervise Estimator Trainees Support bid tracking, bid reviews, bid bonds, and drawing procurement What We're Looking For Strong knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, and Mechanical Piping systems Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents Solid understanding of applicable plumbing and mechanical codes Experience with estimating software such as AutoBid, Excel, and Bluebeam Excellent communication and organizational skills Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline; OR 10+ years of field experience in HVAC/Plumbing/Piping; OR 5+ years of estimating experience in these disciplines Benefits Competitive salary of $95,000–$115,000, relocation assistance, and a comprehensive benefits package with a strong track record of promoting from within.
